It's just people confusing timelines. when Hamil 1st got the script and in pre production he did think like that, it's just he and rian did work it out.

He's a better actor than I thought, and I think he's a great actor. That post premiere clip makes him look incredibly upset with the film and R. Johnson. He's amazing! (But in which part is he acting?)

Maybe it's "fake news"
And maybe it's a media storm in a teacup ( as often happens) but it still may be enough to sway exec's looking for better numbers, especially given the coverage the rotten tomatoes scores are getting (fake or otherwise).

You could very well be right but that concerns me because when is grossing a billion ever disappointing?
I mean take the prequels.
The Phantom Menace made just over a billion. Attack of the Clones made just under 650 million. Revenge of the Sith made 840 million.
Both the Force Awakens and the Phantom Menace performed unusually well considering both opened from a decade long dearth in Star Wars film content.
The Last Jedi will still make money. But if it got less than projected and gets poor reviews, it will get Disney to change things. They're smart enough to know that why make a movie that will bring in $1 billion when it could have brought in 2?
Disney will have taken note how batman vs Superman tanked the DCu souring the audience so badly 40% refused outright to give Justice league a chance leading to it flopping badly.
They won't want a similar situation arising with star wars.

Lightsabers having "focusing crystals" began with the West End Games books back in the 80s. Crystals with an affinity with the Force, called "Kaiburr" rather than "kyber" began with Splinter of the Mind's Eye, back in 1978. And before that, the ANH novel said that, for Anakin's lightsaber "a number of unfamiliar, jewellike components were built into both handle and disk".
Seen it for a second time, and I enjoyed it even more than the first. Many things that stroke me 'weird' in the 1st vision, didn't even bothered me the 2nd.
At this point, several complaints about the movie sound like people just being pissed off because things didn't go the way they thought.

Regardless of personal opinion, it's clearly a deeply flawed, highly divisive film. That is no longer arguable.

As somebody who routinely follows the box office it hurts my heart to see Forbes articles linked to as though they had any journalistic integrity whatsoever.

I have to ask why you doubt their integrity. As a past economics teacher I've been reading them for many years. Of course they have an agenda, but it always appeared to be that of placating the rich and making them feel good about themselves in their greed.
The hard data they use about the week one to two drop isn't disputable unless you have other sources showing them to be false. I've looked around, but I can't find any...

I was already weary about a movie about Solo before he has any character development and now we get to learn this. Cool.

The figures are correct, though they are just one way of cutting the data which is then made available to the public. I have access to a slightly more accurate version - the same data sits behind it, just a more representative view.
But with box office reporting the context is everything and you can write almost any article you like pinned around the two or three box office numbers they get. What you predominantly get from Forbes is personal spin and bias from whichever yahoo logged in to spew their viewpoint onto the internet that day.

You made me actually click the link, and I swore not to read any more Forbes stuff. It's exactly what I expected - a smidgen of science wrapped in layers of hyperbole, speculation and outright guesswork.
Comparison to Justice League is unnecessary and is just a cynical exercise on pushing fanboy buttons to bait clicks. TLJ may be dropping a bit faster (though comparison at Christmas is very difficult as holiday days fall differently each year, e.g. This year NYE was a Sunday and many cinemas will close early) but the opening weekend in the US market was particularly strong. He spins it as a disaster against Disney objectives but then has no idea what those objectives are.
BTW I'm not trying defend the film, I thought it was very disappointing, just trying to fight the Forbes click bait agenda being spun any further than it had to.
Fair enough. So their integrity is not in doubt infact, but they have an agenda/spin that you don't like.
