Rivals December 15th release

By KentonMattos, in Star Wars: Destiny

How are your LGS handling the limited release of Rivals.

6 Draft Packs doesn't seem enough for a legitimate event.

I was told that nether location can sell the packs.

Can’t even sell?

I was under the impression that you could sell it. My store is planning on selling them Friday, and then doing a draft with those who buy the kits, just not sure how many we are getting in.

Safe to say that only the LGS retailers will be carrying Rivals? Not BN or other brick mortar outlets? I only ask because I hate buying online and travel time to my not so LGS can be significant. Thanks for humoring a silly question.

Initial reports suggest some local game stores are selling the draft packs, others are not, and others are trying to decide. If you have confirmation that retailers are NOT allowed to sell them, please link it.

Eyegor, I don't know. I have found no list of retailers, and neither BN nor CoolStuffInc nor either LGS I checked has heard anything at all about Rivals on the east coast U.S.

One Store is using the 6 Rivals Draft Packs to run three events. Using the same packs for each event. That is what my store is planning as well based on the information we received.

They are going to sell six packs? I would hate to be the one who misses out on those.

Ugg, they did it again. Very limited release of the product.

Yeah, but what else can they do? They might be pooling between another local shop to get enough to do a draft league or something too.

I called the Fantasy Flight Game Center. They told me all stores are only getting six copies in, including them. It’s just to promo the set and get people to try out the new format(s). So you get to borrow the set, do a draft, play and return it afterwards...at least that’s the intent for putting this out early. I’m sure some LGS will just dump their 6 copies and be done with it.

I get it, but still a bit disappointed. I was all ready to have a surprise gift for my wife and son(and me!) to have some new things to play with over Xmas vacation. Oh well, l’m not buying 6-8 packs for a store draft until the new set comes out and then topping it off by having to return the core set. I can wait.

Might just be me, but tossing this in at the last minute right before the holidays is poor timing(despite the obvious movie piggy backing). Lots of people travel, and just generally have many other things going on. Then coming up super short on supply doesn’t help either.

Europe got the full Legacies release. Apparently this 6 pack draft loaner was supposed to make US customers not notice.

Ignorance could have been bliss, thanks internet!

those.... B@STARDS! lol

hope my flgs is getting some of the rival packs.

so when is the full release of Legacies? Why doesnt FFG tell us when their product will release? When will it be legal. This affects tournament prep for regionals so they should announce a date new product will be available and will be legal. come on FFG get it together

So, Europeans get to see Episode VIII earlier and spam the internet with spoilers, so as a reward they get Destiny a month earlier too?

Yeah, that's about right.

Be lucky you people in the States are getting anything. I have to wait till at least Jan 4th 2018 to have a chance at getting anything from Legacies (starters, boosters, or Rivals). Europe gets early limited release of base set, U.S gets early release of Rivals but Canada is getting nothing!!!! Way to go FFG.

The Rival cards do not look very strong for standard play.

But they are the absolute best for sealed or draft play, so good in fact everyone will have a pack!! :P

This trickle release has people upset as you just don't know when you can get it, and a lot of people enjoy sealed play and are therefore looking forward to the release of Rivals in particular as it offers a new way of playing.

Yes. From what I have seen this is true.

Disney likely required FFG to have something available for the movie release, and this actually makes some sense if all they could get was some limited air shipped product. With such a limited run, a loaner program means everyone has the same opportunity (assuming they can get to a store that got a kit) to try out the draft format this weekend. It's still not great because most players are saturated on cards from the available sets already, and will wait until Legacies drops to try draft.

Yup we get nothing. Since the merge, and then the change in distribution we have been getting shafted in Canada, I fully expect the shaft to continue. Unfortunately.

They are FUDGING up big time. Europe O.K everywhere else pissed off.

I purchased three Rivals Draft packs this morning at my FLGS. I was told they had "lots in stock", but now I'm thinking they're all out as I took the last three on the shelf.

Caveat emptor. My LGS sold me a draft set, only to find out that the one thing I was looking forward to the most - thumbing through the new cards - couldn’t be accomplished because there weren’t any. I got dice and a rules sheet, but not an ounce of cardboard. Feeling burned and super cheated.
