Wildcats and Dragon Teeth - Dragon Fiction

Well, "Daisetsu for Emperor!" I suppose. God, what a brat; you figure the Emperor would either give the people tasked with his heirs education the power to discipline him, or attend the boys lessons himself.

Maybe Kachiko and Sumiko are right; maybe the Hantei have lost the favor of the Heavens.

Isn't that how the CCG ended? With Daisetsu's son becoming Emperor....

Yeah he needs to be a brat though. Again its the set up for the larger picture story, an Empire in decline, the rulers having lost their divine mandate, gotta set up some excuse for the Empire to go to war.

I'm expecting we will see a split between the two sons with some supporting Daisetsu and others for Sotorii. I expect it will be a traditionalist (Sotorii is the heir and first born despite his failings) versus progressive (Daisetsu seems more level headed and capable) split but we could always see some Shadowlands influence in there as well. The question would be which clans would fall on which side.

Diasetsu's and Shahai's son, Kanpeki, yes. So the setup's already there (hint, hint).

Granted, they're both at the stage where boys/girls have cooties, but if they both manage to stick around for a decade or so... ;)

As for the

part, that's still just Sumiko's speculation. So the Dragon- and Scoprion lady may be wrong.

You couldn't have chosen any other names for the factions? I mean, they make sense, but I'm having Ivory Edition-flashbacks now.

Wish I could but it is the most appropriate. IF it makes you feel better we could go with Old Guard and Reformist, but doesn't quiet have as straight forward a ring to it

Sotorii was always a brat. I hoped it might be less so, since he wouldn't be so spoiled when his father didn't lose wife and second son. Remember, this is the boy who outlawed an entire family because someone sat in a chair.

I didn't know that. :o

To be fair, the Progressive vs Traditionalist conflict WASNT a bad idea, AEG just did absolutely nothing with the concept. The idea of two heirs, especially like Seiken and Shiabatsu who truly cared for each other, becoming embroidered into an empire sized ideological struggle could have been really cool, lots of ways to make that premise interesting.

If the new game when that route for the cause of the clan war it could be a fun concept.

But really the big take away is that Toturi is going to get a brat tagging along, poor guy.

This could make for some interesting drama. Perhaps Daisetsu will be seen as the superior ruler but with questions raised about his dabbling in things best left alone. Then we have the contrast of Sotorii as the rightful heir and (mostly) pure and honorable but a leader of questionable competence.

I enjoyed the Brothers' Destiny story arch and just wish we'd seen it develop more through the roll into Onyx Edition.

A Dragon-character fiction? Well it's about time!

I felt like this fiction portrayed (what I understand to be) Dragon clan values pretty well. Sotorii was being a total Joffrey the entire time, but Sumiko was patient and even willing to suffer the embarrassment of letting him win in order to possibly teach him something (and, presumably, to prevent him from throwing a tantrum and having her executed for no reason). I think it's in-character for a Dragon to suffer a short-term defeat or embarrassment in order to advance the long game--but will this long game wind up making things better, or will it just make Sotorii worse?

Sotorii sounds like a little punk. Still not onboard with removing the current Emperor, he seems like a pretty cool guy, but I certainly hope he gets a better heir. Sotorii seems like the type of person who needed alot more humbling and discipline in his childhood, except everyone but the emperor was apparently too afraid of him to teach him a little kindness and humility.

Yes, it was Sotorii who disbanded the Akodo because he found Toturi sitting in the broken throne.

The storyline was pretty much dropped at the climax to speed the arrival of Onyx.

I disliked Sotorii in old5r. I now fully despise him. What an arrogant prick.

I rather enjoy how much I dislike Sotorii. Going forward, I'm really struggling with either accepting that someone that shallow & petulant is likely much more manageable in the short term, with possibly explosive negative results, or backing Daisetsu who'll likely be much more difficult to predict or manipulate...

This had to be done.

I think Kachiko has her next pawn to manipulate. She'll likely convince Sotorii that Toturi is plotting against him and that will be the catalyst to make Torturi go ronin. Hotaru will help Toturi escape death and this will allow Kachiko to effectively remove the right and left hands of the emperor, thus beginning Lady Kachiko's Reign with a puppet Satorii.

Fu Leng is going to need more mustache wax, asap!

Don't forget the need to arrange her own husbands death so she can assume her place as Empress beside her puppets side.

Add Unique symbol.

We now have an obvious villain to hate, for those who need one.

They are building a great case for some people to overthrow the next Emperor.

I wonder if Shoju would be more loyal to this Emperor while Kachiko would plot to supplant him. It could be interesting if there was such a divide between them...

That moment when you realize a manipulative boy with the potential of becoming the greatest threat Rokugan ever faced is a better choice than the legitimate heir.

Yup, Sotorii is the is the evidence of the Hantei dynasty losing the favor of the Heavens.

At the surprising young age of 5, Sotorii is the youngest samurai to have completed their gempukku... apparently.
