Can you game the rules for revealing a red move while stressed?

By CRCL, in X-Wing

As far as I can tell, this is perfectly legal, but I just wanted to clarify. In this example, we have Dash vs Kylo and a Gunboat. The only really important build to know is Kylo (46 Kylo w/ PtL, Adv Sensors, AT, Primed, Title).

We have the situation shown below. The Imperial player is convinced that Dash is going to cut in with a Hard-3 and then BR to escape the trap and setup for next turn.

The Gunboat does a Bank-1 to try and cover Dash cutting in.

But alas, knowing his opponent would cover that vector Dash has instead done a Bank-3 with a Barrel-Roll to try and dodge both the Gunboat and Kylo.

Not only does the Gunboat not have a shot, but it doesn't look like there is any way that Kylo will be able to keep arc as he is about to revealed a K-turn.... Unless.
pic4.png.f6df99c8cf76627ab62610914865bbee.png

Kylo uses his advanced sensors and PTL to Boost + Barrel-Roll, giving himself a stress before he reveals his move.
pic5.png.d4dcb18a8213bdf6d790f722ad593e7f.png

Kylo then reveals his K-turn, but because he is stressed he instead performs a white Forward-2 move per the FAQ.

This puts Kylo in the perfect position to make Dash sad-face.

Am I getting this correct?

Pretty sure it's legal. What are the broader implications, though? Is Kylo Ren the X-Wing Singularity that will usher in 2.0? Probably not.

Yeah, but poor Kylo would end up being double stressed which is generally not a nice place to be if you are an arc-dodger.

It's totally legal. Originally, the opponent would assign a maneuver that could be executed with a stress token (white or green). Most of the time he would choose one that placed the ship in a very bad situation.

That rule was changed at a later point to make the ship perform a default 2 straight maneuver, instead.

The Kylo Ren player is following the rules by doing what he does in your post.

No, He only gets one stress from using Push the Limit.

The revealed red koiogran turn is replaced with a white forward 2 maneuver, which doesn't generate any additional stress.

Nope, just the one stress. The 2 white forward doesn't assign the stress token.

For real? I was under the impression that the maneuver revealed, not the maneuver executed is the relevant maneuver for the "check pilot stress" window. You never stop learning in this game. :)

Nope.

Otherwise, Stay On Target would be AMAZING.

Eye-opening thread! I could have swore you still got a stress token.

Great job sir!

I love some mental excercises when it comes to X-Wing.
This is theorycrafting I approve!

Yeah it was just an interesting (a least to me) rules interaction I was thinking about. Technically it's been possible since the FAQ change came out, but the only ship that could really take advantage of it was PtL + Adv Sensors Corran and he's not been very common.

I'm not sure your opponent will appreciate it if you pull this off against them :D

This topic first popped up when they changed the rules for revealing red maneuvers while stressed. Definitely legal.

A few of us talked about this option back when the Silencer was first spoiled, but nobody explained it this well! Turns out that system, EPT, and great dial are a pretty awesome combo!

Yes this is legal, though he'd do adv sensors before revealing the dial at all.

Its been a thing for awhile but generally adv sensor users dont take PTL, the Silencer is the oddball there.

This sort of edge case is kinda the price you pay for keeping the rules manageable as more complex game effects continue to be added to the game.

Sorry if this is obvious, but is it at all possible for Dash to not fly off the board at this point? I'm not terribly familiar with his dial.

I look at as more of an "Easter egg" hidden in the rules that makes a goofy interaction "perfectly legal."

As long as it doesn't get out of hand, of course.

I think adv sensors on Corran is vastly superior to FCS. I've always taken him with PtL and adv sensors.

Now, with coordinate, Corran can have the best of both worlds :D

Dash has 1turns, it appears hes far enough away to do a 1turn to his left and be fine.
Very close though, might end up poking over the edge.

He's got 1-hards on his dial, but I think he's kinda cutting it close!

Wonderful find. Kudos.

The 1 turn should fit, though it's close.

The 1-turn on a large base ship overlaps itself, so you project the image basically slightly inside the left and top edges of his current placement.

I don't think he could BR around (Kylo would be pretty much at his middle), so he'd have to do ANOTHER 1-turn the next turn as well.

Edit: Finger-measuring it, the tip of his corner might actually be off the board. It'd probably be obvious on a real table.

No spare room

I think the top 1-turns fits, barely. If the the right-side 1-turn fits, it's a squeaker. In either case, Kylo could probably find a way to block the second 1-turn ... bye, bye, Dash.
