OverLords Only!

By Kalidor, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hi!

Overlords only , please; spoilers abound!

I know it is hard to playtest other people's quests...but I am asking for a favor, regardless of how long it takes.

I uploaded a new quest to the database that I feel has some nice elements to it.

It may be raw and need some tweaking; I am relying on all of you to help me through this!

The quest itself has some nice concepts to it, I think.

A "timing" mechanism to control how long the game lasts, in a way...The OL is not allowed to reshuffle his deck. If he cannot draw a card, the Heroes lose.

It has 2 Bosses with a couple of special abilities I think could cause some real issues for the heroes.

It has a "surprise" victory stipulation that the Heroes may have a small amount of trouble figuring out.

It has a secret passage which could allow for the Heroes to gain a small, one turn boon in what appears to be a tough spot.

Anyways, please at least glance over it, read the flavor text and Important text and give me some feedback. Please.

:)

By the way...

It's entitled

"The Old Man's Inn"

and it appears in The Well of Darkness listing.

Well...

First of all, you need a door at the center of the northmost corridor, and an explanation of the web obstacles (as they are not described in the instructions).

Second, 5 trap treychery is probably too high. Have you already played the quest? I just don't know. If combined with the Altar of Despair expansion, the OL could corrupt 2 gliphs (wich would allow him to draw 2 cards from his deck each time they are used or activated), and still have enought points to add another dark charm to the deck. This, combined with the time limit would make the quest almost impossible. How about 3 green, 3 blue and 2 red? Or may be 4 green, 2 blue and 2 red? On the other hand, most enemies here are a bit weak. Have you considered other monsters? You change the colour of some treachery points so that there are some more red ones: 2 green, 3 blue and 3 red for example. I just can't get the perfect combination.

The named monsters seem to be alright, as there is a silver chest to counter them, and the number of gliphs is also correct. The area descriptions could be improved, but they are ok. You should give some instructions about the object the heroes want to get. Is it a "other" item? Also, since the heroes can win without killing the sorcerer, you should mention it in the goals section.

Overall the idea of the map is ok but you should play it to adjust the treachery points, so that they work correctly when combined with the time limit. I won't be able to play it, as I don't have this expansion.

Thanks for the reply!

This is the type of thing I was hoping to read; some constructive thoughts!

I have not even played it...it was a concept, and idea. I think it has potential for a quicker quest, if people are interested in a shorter session...

It does need a lot of tweaking, however. Your thoughts will start the fixing! :)

*I need a door because the area 2 is too large? Too much room for spawning? I purposely didn't add a door there, but you are thinking I should have?

*I will add notes under Important regarding the Webs (forgot that :( )

*You can't win without killing the sorceror; I did state that in the goals and in the Important section of the final area.

*The time limit was (hopefully) supposed to feel fast...the heroes are rushed; the poor Old Man is dieing and wants that brooch! ;)

*The brooch is simply a quest item. It doesn't take up space in anyone's inventory, it has no special abilities/powers and it is not an Other Item.

*The high Green was supposed to enable the OL to be able to play a lot of trap-type OL cards...and I tried to counter that potential with weaker monsters, in general. Playtesting will, hopefully, balance this?

Any ideas? I will get to work a.s.a.p. on fixing the web notes and maybe the Northern Door situation...

THANKS!!!

Updated some of the info as per suggestions and logic ;)

Can't believe I forgot to mention rules regarding Web tokens...sigh...

Thanks!
