As I'm sure everyone has seen, that flotillas have been a MUST take in competitive play. My local meta, tends to MAYBE max out at 3 in a list, and that is a rare thing. BUT, when we have regionals or so, I see them dominating, to even the point of people taking a single ISD and 5 flotillas. My store come up with another kind of flotilla balancing rule and I wanted to know what you guys think of this:

A list can not contain more flotillas than of other non-flotilla ships.

It's not detrimental to the usefulness of he flotilla, but does prevent the activation spam of the flotilla, to just support a single regular ship.

I've been attempting to limit myself to 1, maybe 2. But, I would rather have combat ships. It does put me at an activation disadvantage most of the time, though. Even working in Hera in place of a flotilla.

Depending on the opponent, it turns into a flotilla hunt with the corvettes I'm bringing instead. Not as much fun for going for the small victory. But, can throw opponents a small curve ball. I've found rule prohibiting admirals on flotilla makes hunting them less rewarding, though.

I mean, I’ve seen this rule before and while I think it could help limit the number of flotillas, it will severely hamper large ships and their ability to reach some sort of activation parity with MSU. I mean, I’m currently looking at a death pickle list with SIX flotillas and some strategic shenanigans.... if I were limited to the flotillas to real ships ratio how many activations could I get? Maybe 5?

I think it balances out in that you give up significant firepower going with so many flotillas, and as you’ve found they are fairly easy to kill*

The question becomes can putting ALL of your firepower into a single activation and then leveraging that with last/first *break* the game so to speak, or are you actually sacrificing too much in the way of anti-ship guns. That’s what I intend to find out in my “Defiant till the end” list. Now to just find 4 gr-75’s I can borrow so I can run 6 of the little buggers with my pickle
