90's TIE Fighter Goodness

Nu Squadron - HLC/Linked Battery/LRS/XG-1

Vessery - D/TB/TIE MK II/Expertise

97 points.

I've loved the original TIE Fighter PC game since the 90's, and now I have a chance to include not only my favourite ship, but also the Gunboats, in a list that just screams awesome to me. Ship wise at least as they look lovely together.

We've wanted the Gunboat for a long time. Is anyone over the moon that they can recreate 90's LucasArts greatness?

That is my goto list too atm. I like the Ion cannon on vessery instead of the TB and probably switch one or both LBs for Flechette Cannons. Got to get me a U-wing for the expertise before my next tournament.

My version of this combo:

Vessery (36)
Mk2 Engines (1)
x7 Title (-2)

Juke (2)

Rho Squadron (32)x2
Crackshot (1)
LRS (0)
XG-1 (1)
HLC (7)
Linked (2)

Total: 100

I ran an xD version with TB and Nu's in the same loadout and wasnt pleased with it due to xD being not that difficult to take down.
The x7 version allows him to be a distraction that still hits hard due to his ability. Defenders can play bumperships very well while the gunboats are turning around as well. Crackshot basically acts as your TB effect, only might not need it and/or it only works once.

I thought there might be some scope to tinker with it, especially with Vessery's title and the cannons.

Not used it yet but it's all been prepared for use on Thursday. Really excited to use it, though I am concerned about the turning circle of the Gunboats.

You guys spell Maarek Stele really weird.

To be fair, he spells it really weird too.

Hahaha I always struggle with the spelling.

I've got some spare points. But is it worth losing Vessery's ability just to be thematic?

Maarek's ability beat double Skuurg for me by forcing one of them to do a green that led it into the teeth of both Gunboats. Totally worth it.

This is my current list; seems to be a similar vein to everyone else; am gonna try the TB/D defender with Adaptability i think. see how that works. Am currently like 4-2 with the below list

------------

Wish Upon a Star Wing (100)

Rho Squadron Veteran (32) - Alpha-class Star Wing Lightning Reflexes (1), XG-1 Assault Configuration (1), Long-Range Scanners (0), Heavy Laser Cannon (7), Linked Battery (2)

•Colonel Vessery (36) - TIE Defender

Juke (2), TIE/x7 (-2), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

Rho Squadron Veteran (32) - Alpha-class Star Wing Lightning Reflexes (1), XG-1 Assault Configuration (1), Long-Range Scanners (0), Heavy Laser Cannon (7), Linked Battery (2)

-------------

Stele and Vessery cost the same I just remembered! So it's purely down to pilot ability and how thematic I want to be. Using LRS to set up Vessery seems too good to miss at the moment though. 3 hard-hitting ships that way.

Usually I'd take X7 over D, but with Expertise I can keep the focus for defense so I'm happy to go for the more attacking title.

Past the alpha-strike, I am finding it hard to keep using LRS on the gunboats to paint targets for Vessery. When they aren't SLAMming for reposinitioning (either to get another shot or to get out of danger), they are focusing to perform an attack.
Given that, Vessery provides a stronger alpha-strike, I would say. But Maarek could end doing more damage over the game if he gets to cherry pick Direct Hits or other nasty crits.

I'm hoping that with the HLC/LB combo they won't need to use their TLs. Get the TL early, then sit on them so Vessery can benefit. Perhaps I'm being optimistic but I've seen some good maths to back it up.

Fingers crossed?

This, the GUNBOATS with LRS seem to be a pretty good match for Vessery they give easy target locks and pose a serious threat of their own, so there are no super easy target decisions for your opponent.

The way I see it is all three will roll out. The Gunboats get their TLs. Engage. Vessery covers as the Gunboats SLAM out trouble, then moves away herself.

Come round to reengage, with Vessery either giving the enemy something to think about from a different angle or putting them off from chasing the Gunboats.

I used the list last night against Kylo/Omega Leader/Epsilon Ace.

Pretty solid win without losing a ship.

Feel as though I used them decently but I need to work on forcing engagements on my terms and not being scared to disengage.

HLC with Linked Battery is great!

Used LRS in round 1 and never used the TLs after that. Perfect for Vessery.

Definitely something I'll be using again. Should be great against large ships.
