More Than a Report of an Epic Battle: Fiction. TURNING A TRAP!

By Darth Veggie, in Star Wars: Armada

As you might have read here, @Visovics and me will play an epic battle on VASSAL on Friday (5 PM UTC). Two fleets of 1500 points each will clash into each other. Now, I want to write a battle report of a different kind: It will be fiction about this epic confrontation. Of course this will take some time and will be lengthy. So, today I start with a warm up: The setup of the game right before fleets are deployed.

EDIT: I moved the battle report to my blog. Click here for the Prologue. And here for Round 1.

Please excuse my English. I am not a native speaker.

This is a tematic Rebel fleet indeed.

Not only thw Mon Cals bring in their big guns but they will introduce the B-Wings to the batte, a stsrfighter developed by Ackbar & Co. Well... before Rebels changed its story and turned it into a ship capable of single-handedly destroy a capital ship, built in a junkyard by a crazy fish.

Lol wait wasn't the bwing an Akbar special? Designed to be the most brawlinest, tough to kill assault fighter? Meant to fly right at an ISD and give zero f***s.

Not according to Rebels... There the B-Wing was built by a crazy moncal on a planet in total seclusion from mostly scrap parts. And it has a superstrong beam weapon that can destroy a Kitten (or was it a Goz?) with a single shot. Why didn't the Rebels ever use this weapon again in situation like the attack on the Death Star is a mistery.....

Because after one shot it completely blew out the targeting system leaving it unarmed. (Stated at the time)

and probably slagged the weapon itself at the same time. (My conjecture )

Later editions will undoubtedly lack the beam for its more familiar load out and, know, actual repeat use and relative ease of maintenance.

Also, that crazy MonCal was a tribute.

Since he was named Quarrie.

It doesn't really negate legends material, in fact they sort of blended into the legends material. A Mon Cal designed and built a prototype fighter with an overly powerful weapon system. It had a number of problems, but was effective in the one battle where it was used to destroy a small capital ship. The prototype version with the powerful beam weapon wasn't feasible for a production fighter and it was further refined and redesigned into the B-wing that we know. Current cannon really only added this prototype version, but then used the same designers and project name as the original legends B-wing.

Ah thank you I was wondering how bad my memory is and as I suspected, it's crap.

Can’t wait for the battle! Fits its definition of epic for sure!

To add to the B-wing discussion, I think they talk it a bit on the short story Blade squadron: kuat and how it was design to hurt capital ahips and not squadrons, so it always has escorts of x-wings or something like that

That was my intention. Otherwise it would make no sense to have Ten Numb rotting in Hyperspace - one needs hin in the early game.

The rebel take on B-Wings (which I also don't like very much) is simply consistent with most of the story telling in Star Wars. Individuals have nearly all the time the edge over a group of people. Family stories change the galaxy - much less than political ones. The reason for such story telling is understandable. Individuals make a story one can much easier identify with. However, there comes the point where such story telling becomes competelly implausible - and the story thereby dull and lame. But one should not forget that Rebels is a children's story. No wonder that we adults sometimes shake our heads in astonished disbelieve about what the producers want us to enjoy. However, maybe we should shake our heads about us watching children's stories :D

The battle has started! We are at the beginning of round 2. All the big guns have hyperspaced in. An aqruitens and Home One are activated at the moment. Currently we make a break until @Visovics returns within around 2 hours.

Man that ISD seems screwed! But then, so do the Hammerheads. :)

The Hammerheads are fine (long live Task Force Antilles!)... but the same holds true of the ISDs!

At the moment we are close to the end of round 2. 5 More Hammerheads and one more Rebel Flotilla have to move. Up to now, Squall has been taken down by the Liberty, Defiance has killed on Flotilla and Endeavor has taken down two more Flotillas. One Arquittens is heavily damaged. But the shields on Home 1 and Liberty are not the best either. Chimare is threatening Phoenix Home and Yavaris and has a good chance to take out both with its first acitivation at the beginning of the next round. However, Thrawn's flagship has got a **** of a beating from Luke. How long will it survive?

The Imperials have lost Saber Squadron, a Tie advanced, Howrunner, and Mauler Mithel (but the latter inflicted more than 10 damage with one activation). Thanks to Biggs all Rebel squads are still living, but quite sure next round they wil die in dozens - the imperial simply outnumber the rebels way too much.

This does not bode well for the Empire... Darn fishheads!

This game against @Visovics has ended on last Wednesday. You want to know how it ended? You need to wait and read through all the other part of the reports that will come in. But now the second part of the battle report is done (covering the last bits of the setup, round 1, and a little bit of round 2).

Because I had some issues with the images I moved the entire battle report to my blog. Click here to read the second part.

As always, please excuse my English. I am not a native speaker.

Can you use strategic on hyperspace tokens? In CC they are victory tokens, because strategic works only on objective tokens. Or am I forgetting something?

We might have completely forgotten that

Specifically, you cannot in the Corellian Conflict All out Assault (for the reason given - they are explicitly Victory Tokens, not Objective tokens)

Whereas it works on normal Hyperspace assault, because they are Objective Tokens.

Then we were playing a special Hyperspace Assault :D

@Visovics that means we need to start anew from the point I activated the Falcon for the first time... ;)

Armada has some really sweet pieces, and i enjoy coming up with a good strategy using upgrade cards. I need to get the corellian conflict though, it sounds fun.

Have you got a save from that moment? ;)

Nothing easier than that. Play the logfile to that point save. Start anew :D
