My take on Riekaan 2 + 3

By MandalorianMoose, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

So, I very briefly flew Riekaan aceholes in wave two, and while I quickly realized it’s power I didn’t particularly enjoy the play style so it was shelved in favor of much list experimentation. I thought with all they hype going around about it again I’d give it another shot with all the new toys. I really would like to get ten nub in there but I’m not sure what to cut/swap.... I want to keep Corran cause he seems like he could be fun with Adar shenanigans... thoughts?

Riekaan 2 + 3 (400/400)

- Flight Commander (3)

- Fighter Coordination Team (3)

= 68 total points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)

- Bomber Command Center (8)

- Hondo Ohnaka (2)

= 28 total points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)

- Bright Hope (2)

- Toryn Farr (7)

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)

- Comms Net (2)

- Leia Organa (3)

= 23 total points

Squadrons (134/134):

1x Luke Skywalker X-Wing Squadron (20)

1x Wedge Antilles X-Wing Squadron (19)

1x Corran Horn E-wing Squadron (22)

1x Dutch Vander Y-Wing Squadron (16)

1x Gold Squadron Y-wing Squadron (12)

1x Moldy Crow - Jan Ors (19)

1x B-Wing Squadron (14)

1x Green Squadron A-wing Squadron (12)

Ten might take Wedges spot. I know Ten is really a lynchpin for this squad makeup because of his flexibility. Wedge is similar in that regard, just trading effectiveness in the big furball for nuke damage on a single squad.

I had considered it, but I’m hesitant to go down to a single source for escort, especially when it is one I’d rather have them not shooting at... alternatively I could swap Jan for Ten and Green squad for a generic hawk... i lose the ability to zombify Jan, but each ace has their own set of braces to protect them, and as the blob usually chews through enemy fighters first anyway before bombing ships it could end up not being that bad to lose the hawk....

On the other hand Jan’s braces can’t be acc’d when she lends them out...

You could go Ten, Jan, Luke, Wedge, Dutch, Gold, Corran and 1 Z-Wing.

You lose Green and the Generic B, but overall its pretty close to the same. Plus, I actually really like running 1 or 2 z's as bursty filler.

Can’t like it as I’ve run out for today, but I really dig this idea. I had been thinking about doing that swap too, but was trying to find a way to also keep in the generic b-wing... I think your suggestion is the most elegant way to keep the gist of what I was going for with the squads though... I guess I can use that second fct on Corran or Luke as needed to extend their range even further!

In Rieekan lists, you generally only need 1 x-wing ace to protect your intel. If the x-wing ace dies, zombify it, and your intel will still be protected, and your bombers can go crazy for that one turn(which is usually enough to take down 1 small-medium ship)

So I ran it again a few times and think I’ve settled on the squad loadout-

Luke, X-wing, Jan, Gold, Keyan, Ten, and 2 VCX’s.

I really like having both B-wing Aces as they present such huge threats (both vs ships and ten vs squads) that it can give opponents issues on who to target first. I was worried about losing firepower with VCX’s but with Toryn and Toryn flak I didn’t even realize much drop in AA effectiveness.

It disgusts me that you can get Luke, Keyan, and Ten into a build and still have 8 squad drops.

That said, I love it.

It feels pretty dirty I must admit. When it all lines up it’s obscene how much damage can be put into a single target, especially since it comes in individual attacks so defense tokens are either useless or overwhelmed.

Another thing I’ve found in regards to the VCX’s is that they are great for targeting enemy counter units, as that 8 hull can just tank those shots while the Escorts take the regular squadron attacks

This is a huge key for me in playing vcx's. Especially as second player when you can control the station and make sure they have an outlet to heal up.

I feel that Jan is an Auto take in a Riekaan list using GH. The Brace you can't stop is often what makes this so hard to kill even for Sloane fleets, especially for Sloane actually. A generic HWK is a huge step down from Jan in most cases.
