Tabletop Admiral Overhaul Beta - Help test!

By werdnaegni, in Runewars Miniatures Game

So I've been hard at work revamping the list builder at Tabletop Admiral.

If you're not familiar, you can find the current version here: Tabletop Admiral - Runewars

TLDR: New version is Here . Still have some kinks to work out, but am at the point where some feedback would be helpful. Note: YOU CAN'T SAVE YOUR LISTS IN THIS VERSION YET

What's new:

  • A more streamlined experience. I think the biggest complaint I got in the past was that it showed other factions before you added cards that would even allow that. That's gone now. Instead of things showing up that you can't use, they don't show up until you can use them. Ex: Elves won't show up until you add Kari if you're making a Daqan list
  • All factions on one page. It will just ask you your faction at the start. You can restart at any time without reloading the page
  • You can now enter your collection at http://tabletopadmiral.com/runewars/profile / and it will affect your list building. It won't let you add things you don't have.
  • Some fixes. I think there were problems with Ardus before, and also it would let you add Daqan upgrades, for example, to your Latari units in your Daqan list. That's fixed.

Probably more, but that's all I remember at the moment.

What's left:

  • Finish the layout. I'm not sure where the upgrade options will go, but right now they just get slapped under your unit options, which isn't great. I'll probably just have the unit options disappear when you're looking at upgrades, kind of like before, but feel free to give input. And just in general I'm going to sleekify it a bit more. It's all sort of a placeholder at the moment.
  • Page redirecting to the RW page when you update your collection
  • Allow you to filter by faction on the "latest lists" page
  • Add a button to turn off all of the auto-filtering, so you can just make lists the old way if you choose (or if I made a mistake, you can uncheck that to finish your list without my poor programming stopping you)
  • Maybe add a search box? I don't know how useful that would be. I have it for IA but the upgrade options aren't that crazy in this. Let me know though
  • A little floating notification when you add an upgrade, so you know it worked on mobile
  • A duplicate unit button
  • Whatever you all tell me I forgot

So give it a shot if you would. Let me know what you like/hate, what's broken, what I should add, etc.

As always, if you appreciate the tool, please chip in a dollar or two at Patreon ! Thanks to those who already have, I really appreciate it.

Is this a terrible time for a feature request related to layout?

I'd love it if (on a desktop, at least -- mobile might be too small to accommodate) the unit's dial and card remained visible while I'm viewing upgrades for the unit. Frequently, I'll be reading an upgrade and think "Oh, that's great -- but what color is its action?" or "Ooh. But wait, what are its dice to begin with?" and it would be much smoother to not have to click to switch back and forth so I can refer to both while I'm reading the upgrade.

Also, I'd love for the two 4-tray configurations of the Deepwood Archers to have some name differentiation. As is now, I tend to add one of each and then delete the one with the upgrade configuration I wasn't looking for. Just a simple "Deepwood Archers (C)" and "Deepwood Archers (H)" would be perfect.

As far as the layout for where the upgrade options go, it's not awful where they are, but there does need to be some separation from the unit list.

As of now, the "XXXX only" upgrades are not being filtered to show only to the appropriate units for that army.

Points costs of upgrades aren't being shown unless you look at the image preview or add them to your army.

When I update my unit counts if I use the menu to select the list builder it redirects to the original builder. Not sure if that's because it's in beta or not.

For your resources page you have all the units and cores however you dont have the option of adding the essentials pack which comes with the non faction specific upgrades.

Now is the right time!

That might be doable. Maybe the unit options will disappear when looking at upgrades, and you can show upgrade cards under the list of upgrades, on the left, while the unit card you're currently browsing upgrades for will show up in the middle or right.

As for the archers, I'm not sure that's all that feasible with the way I have the database. I guess I could write some code as an exception for them. They are listed in the order that they're on the card though!

Whoops and whoops. I'll fix that tomorrow.

Yeah that's a beta thing.

Yeah I'm going to tackle that tomorrow. I didn't see it on the wiki so I'll have to figure it out.

Awesome work--love the new layout!

It's looking very good. Two things that I noticed that haven't been mentioned yet.

1) Spined Thresher is not listed properly when adding an 18 pointer. There is not a title to the unit. It is probably related to them not having any upgrades at that tier.

2) Total army point cost would probably be better off at the top of the list, vs under the growing list... or both for that matter.

When I add the Fallen Hero to a unit (of reanimates), shouldn't the Artifact list be available (pop up)?

GREAT work! love the new changes!

1) oh weird. Thanks for pointing that out.
2) Agreed

It should, but it doesn't because I forgot. I shall fix it.

Whoa... and I loved the old version. This is amazing. I'll poke around and see if I have any feedback, but you've already done a bunch of cool things that never would have occurred to me, so not sure I'd add much value.

The equipment/upgrades being above the dial images makes it quite unfriendly on mobile, as you need to scroll up, the downward work flow of the previous was much easier.

Yeah I'm definitely going to change how things are arranged

Work has been busy, but I did have time to swap the arrangement a little (still going to rework it more), make it so command cards show up while keeping the unit card showing at all times, and made it so it filters out command cards that require a unit that you're currently not browsing for.

I had to rush, so let me know if anything got screwy.

Okay I updated all the packs with what's in them, so that SHOULD be pretty accurate now, and it includes the essentials pack.

Price should show up on upgrade cards now.

Spined Thresher shows up properly now when the first tier is added to your list.

There's a little floating text when you add an upgrade.

You might have to clear your cache for some of these things to work.

Fallen Hero should work now.

I just found another thing with Spined Threshers.

When creating a Waiqar list, adding each unit as the smallest, then after adding Ankaur Maro, add an 18pt Spined Thresher.

There is a Unique upgrade slot which doesn't exist. Could the unit index be off as the Flesh Ripper small unit has a Unique right before it?

Also, Flesh Ripper 22pt has the upgrade slots of the 38 pt unit.

Also, it allows me to continue adding more than one outside faction unit.

Are you sure you didn't add Ardus? Ardus gives you the next row's slots. I'm a little confused as the slots seem right unless I add Ardus.

As far as allowing you to continue adding outside units, that was intentional, since I know some people like to add everything they WANT to their list, then remove stuff until it becomes legal. That's how it was for IA anyway, so I assumed the same would be a decent policy. Open to changing it though.

Let me know if I'm wrong about it being Ardus, and I'll see if I can figure it out.

Thanks

You are right, I had Ardus in there. I didn't even consider him upgrading the slots for outside factions... not that you get the good stuff anyway. Ignore me!

Maybe having an option to select either mode for adding any # or adding only 1?

Might just be me, but I'm on the site on mobile and when I add units they are immediately below the list of units. There is no gap or break and the units I have picked look like a continuation of the list of available stuff, is it possible to incorporate some.space between the two ?

IMPOSSIBLE

Yeah, I've got some changes/fixes coming, but I can't upload it until it's mostly done because it kind of breaks the old version of the site.

Is there a way to code unique units and upgrades so that you can't add two copies to a list?

Yeah, I didn't realize it was broken until you mentioned it. I'll fix it.

It should be working now, just might have to clear your cache. I removed a line of code, where from what I could tell it didn't need to be there and messed with the uniques tracking, but hopefully it doesn't break something else. Let me know!
