I flew this in a tournament over the weekend as I love flying jank, I never expect to do overly well, finishing in the top half is where I'm happy, and as long as I have fun doing it... This U-Wing is PURE jank. It confused many, but boy is it glorious and actually puts out solid damage while being tanky. I say fly again, because since the U-Wing came out I have flown Cassian/Rey a lot, but usually fly Cassian as a bomber (Snap shot, Sabine, cluster mines, enhanced scopes, engine upgrade) and did okay with it.

First off, Rey does Rey things, and I'm having a very hard time deciding between VI/Scavenging Crane or Expertise. I think Expertise is the better call, but there are numerous times where I want to kill some locks and I wished I could have gotten the CM back. On the flip side, there are a lot of 2-3 ship lists in my local meta. Other than that, she did admirably providing solid offence on the day.

Cassian, oh Cassian... So this is how the jank works. Dial a green, focus or lock for first action, experimental interface a barrel roll. (so now you have TL or Focus and 2 stress). perform green movement, clear both stress with the recruit, gain 2 focus with Kyle! If you need to dial a white, if Kanan is close enough you can still do it, but it depends on how the ruling for Kyle/Kanan on a different ship is being handled. This tournament on Saturday it was ruled by the judges that Kyle would still get the focuses. I've heard it ruled both ways so I made sure to clarify. So most of the time I had TL/2 focus or 3 focus.

Round 1 vs Dengar/Fenn:

I setup in my left corner and fortressesed for turn 1. He conga lined Dengar and Fenn (fenn lead) up slow style. So I answered with a 2 forward wiht cassian and 1 with Rey to prevent a bump, eh once again conga'd @ speed 2. Turn 3, without room to pull off Cassian Jank, I went full throttle forward and tokened up hoping to bump. Cassian ended up range 1 of both with only a millimeter away from bumping Fenn into Cassian. He burned Cassian to the ground, I answered taking Fenn out with Rey.

It came down to rey with 1 hull and dengar with 2. He blanked on his attack with no mods after a sloop. I didn't have him in arc (by a fraction of a millimeter) and fired back. Only one hit got through, he retaliated and I died.

round 2 vs Norra/Ezra (P2)/Poe:

This was scary as it was a pretty janky build. I got lucky tho, very intelligent list building here with Elusiveness and recruit on Ezra, Norra had BB8/PTL/Maul, VI R2D2 Poe. Norra should have hit like a truck, but I kept shutting her down. Ezra was pretty hard to push damage through. There were a couple of turns that we're very important. I ran Cassian up and around to flank while Rey crossed into the rocks. There was one turn where Rey had shots from all 3, luckily obstructed by Norra and Poe. I popped CM on Rey which pretty much saved her, only took 1 damage from the whole altercation. But she hit back and stripped shields off Poe and Cassian pushed a direct hit through. The next round, Poe was gone. A few rounds later I traded Cassian for Ezra and had a pretty banged up Rey vs Norra. We did some dancing, but I made a critical mistake that COULD have lost me the game. I got PS0'd by a crit (the Rey curse) and it was 1 hull on Norra, 3 on Rey I believe. I thought about disengaging hoping he would fly right by, so I dialed in a 2 hard. I second guessed it and grabbed my dial going to a 1 hard right, but somehow must have been spinning the dial in anticipation and didn't realize I spun it to a 2 hard left and put it down. I picked up the dial, shock on my face and moved my ship. Next round I had no options, I was going to be off the board. He dialed in a 2 forward. He chose to BB8 behind me! He could have bumped me off the board! But he flew behind and I evaded the shot, returned fire and won.

round 3 vs Fenn/Talon Bane and I don't remember the third ship right now...

Fenn got half points on rey in the last round of combat, Cassian took no damage, but got final blows on everyone but Fenn. New player, so I just maximized on his mistakes like a jerk.

found 4 vs Poe/Dash

I got half points on Dash. I tried really hard, but he just had my number. He was pretty scared of that U-Wing and burned him down fast. I just couldn't get the damage through on Dash tho...

Top 8 cut first elimination round vs Miranda/Nym

I hate both these ships with a passion. Ships I hate facing: 1: Shadowcaster 2: Miranda 3: Nym. God I hate them. I have initiative.

We started opposite corners, me on the right. I slow rolled to see what he would do, he did the same. We finally met in the lower left quadrant. Cassian ate a harpoon and was down to 2 hull, Rey was too close for it but still took good damage. I laid into Miranda HARD and stripped shields and pushed through a direct hit. She ran away, but I caused a traffic jam with Nym. First jam, I discarded his lock with CM and got his shields down with Rey. second round I decided to do it again (wrong choice) and Nym got through heavy damage with a harpoon. I was able to disengage and ended up with 1 hull left on Cassian and 3 on Rey. Next round Rey was down to 2 hull. My best place to land to PS Kill Rey was inbetween 3 rocks, so I went for it. I rolled a crit on the rock, set off the harpoon, Cassian was close enough to get splashed and had his own harpoon, which splashed back and killed rey (or at least I think thats how it worked?) We sat that and tried to figure out if Harpoon triggers off a rock. Decided it doesn't, backed it up, but lost anyways. Amazingly fun game tho.

This list could probably do a lot better with good practice, but it is not top tier for sure. But it sure was fun!

That's such a cool squad and good to see the U-Wing out in play.

Well done!

Always like your reports, @Wiredin !

You were right, harpooned condition only triggers off attacks. That's the first part of the card text of the condition, " When you are hit by an attack... ".

I did something similar one of the first times I used Flight Assist Astromech. Snap was tractored in front of a rock, he did his maneuver, then I wanted to FAA BR off the rock, which we allowed me to do (casual game) because there's a precedent for BRing off a rock. After the game we actually read the text, "After you execute a maneuver, if you did not overlap a ship or obstacle...". /facepalm

@gennataos is it because I'm always flying extremely janky stuff?! lol

yea, we didn't have the condition card handy so going off memory after 5 rounds of play is a bit of a warp. oh the little things we miss from time to time!

I've flown this exact list a few times, and love it so much; 3/3 in casual play with it. I lost a game when I flew 58 point PTL/Kanan Dash, but Cassian got a lot of work in and kept it close, but didn't like Dash so I switched to Rey.

As to Kyle/Kanan, my understanding is that Kyle doesn't grant the focus tokens, since it's another ship removing the stress (per Wingman). Inspiring Recruit can allow Kanan's ship to remove the second token, but this is still Rey removing the tokens rather than Cassian, so I haven't taken them. A white 2-hard with a pre-move barrel roll and a single action is still pretty solid action economy.

My only real innovation to it is to use debris obstacles. You don't really want to get stranded and miss shots due to rocks, and you've got a lot of anti-stress tools to deal with debris. If, for example, Cassian does his full tokens (TL + 2 focus) then moves onto a debris, he can still move off next round with a green, get a Focus from Kyle, and then perform a normal action. Even if it's not full jank, it's still fairly strong. Sub-optimal, but not bad as a worst-case scenario. Likewise he's able to do a few Red-0 flips. Advanced Sensors to focus and stall, next round green move + action, to have at least two tokens.

Just to note something off to the side a bit, not exactly relevant to the case in question: Snap himself is worded such that it doesn't matter if he overlaps an obstacle, only if he overlaps a ship. As such, if you have a legal Boost (the template doesn't overlap an obstacle, and he'd fit in the final location), Snap can boost off a rock. :) FAA does specifically mention obstacles, however. :(

See I thought thats how the Kyle/Kanan interaction worked because Rey was removing Cassians stress and Kyle wants Cassian to remove the stress to proc his ability. That's how I ruled it, but another table overhead beside me and said I was wrong, so we called a judge and he was't sure... so a bunch of the senior players looked at it and voted for the token stack to happen. Good to know. Yes, the action economy is still very good.

I did do the debris thing a few times too, it worked pretty good.

It is such a fun list, and that U-Wing is bonkers. The first two game rounds I do it I always walk through it step by step, slowly, with my opponent so they understand the interaction. It's hilarious, because the first time they see the U-Wing they go "wtf...okay... but why?" then they see Cassian @ R1 with double focus target lock and the "oh cra" washes over their face as he melts....their face off. It's great.

Right. I'd have taken the boost if I could, because I knew that was legal, but the template overlapped.
