Late to the game - question: what is the likelihood of early lieutenants being reprinted?

By Digitalfiends, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hey guys,

I've been using Massive Darkness as a gateway game to get my daughter into dungeon crawling board games and since she's been loving it so much, I decided to revisit buying into Descent. I was on the fence for the longest time about Descent 2nd as I wanted to play it with my daughter, yet didn't want to be the Overlord. The introduction of the RtL app was what finally pushed me into buying into Descent (awesome move FFG). Knowing that I've come late to the game, I've been trying to buy up as many of the older boxed sets and miniatures that I can find. So far I've got the core set, Trollfens, Mists of Bilehall, almost all the H&M packs that I could find (missing Bonds and Forgotten Souls) but I've had a really difficult time locating English versions of the core set lieutenants (Zachareth, Splig, the Farrows, etc).

I see on FFG's Upcoming page that most of the lieutenants are listed as being "at the printer". With the game being in it's 5th year, do you think these lieutenant packs will actually be reprinted or will they be "at the printer" forever? :)

I really hope FFG commits to reprinting the core lieutenants. It'd be frustrating to have invested so much into the game already but not be able to complete at least the core set's figures. I can't stand using the tokens for monsters, so I'll likely have to use some of my Massive Darkness miniatures as stand-ins for now. I'm also anxiously waiting to pounce on the incoming Labyrinth, Lair, and Nerekhall reprints that are supposedly "on the boat" and likely due later this month.

Anyhow, can't wait to play my first game of Descent with my daughter this coming weekend - I've been staring at the game on my shelf for two weeks now! :)

I saw that but I've heard that things listed as being "at the printers" doesn't always mean that they will actually be reprinted. :)

I guess only time will tell. Hopefully they actually get reprinted.

I thought at the printers meant they were in production?

At the printers usually means they are actively in production. Its 'awaiting reprint' that can sometimes sit in limbo.

Ah, that makes sense. So that's great news then. :)

Those LT's have been "AT THE PRINTER" since the beginning of the year. In other words, they're not showing up anytime soon. You'll have to go to the price gougers if you want them. It's a shame they have never been able to keep the first wave in stock.

@Digitalfiends They have all been updated to 'on the boat' now.. so another 6-12 weeks should do it.

thewarstore.net has Lair, Labyrinth, and Nerekhall all in stock right now, at least at the time of this writing. I got half of my Descent 2nd ed collection from that place.

One tip for if you buy from there and your invoice/order status says "back ordered" after purchase of an in stock item. It most likely just says that while in transit from a distributor to the store. I had that happen on a few of my items and feared the worst (the ultra elusive Splig!), but thankfully that's all it was.

Woohoo, thanks for that. Freakin' awesome. :) I've been watching the status of LotW, LoR, and SoN and didn't even look at the lieutenants.

Thanks for the link. I've already put in a pre-order with my FLGS (I try to support my local shops) after confirming that their distributor will be getting copies of LotW, LoR, and SoN. If they don't get anything in the next 2-3 weeks though, I might have to cancel and order elsewhere.

Belthir is the only Lt that's not being reprinted for some reason. As of now the only one slated is Serena as I said in a post. Belthir his been out for a very long time and I have no clue why he's not being reprinted. Still haven't heard from FFG about him being reprinted.

he's in stock in the ffg webstore

Almost everything's in stock again as of yesterday even the elusive Splig (please don't let the few things I need to complete my collection sell out before payday. I'm coming to catch you with my net Splig!)

The only out of stock items are:

Serena (awesome pack - two figures- Serena the hero and Serena the lieutenant)

Skarn (which I rate a must own sculpt- it's one of the best gaming pieces ever crafted and Skarn is a gift to people wanting to make their own quests or for other gaming such as RPG's)

Ardus Ix'Erebus (another fine sculpt with a good backstory for creative players)

I've got the three you can't currently get - if you haven't they're all worth putting on your wishlist.

Yep, I just ordered pretty much all the lieutenants (no real interest in the ones from Manor of Ravens). Being in Canada though can suck when trying to get these sorts of things in a reasonable amount of time. None of our game shops have even received their restock orders of the boxed sets that arrived in December (LoR, LotW, etc) and they couldn't even tell me when or even if they were getting any more in. I was watching the stock go down on some of the US sites and decided to bite the bullet and order what I was missing - then I got a restock notification about the lieutenants, which are also not in Canadian stores yet. So I got dinged on shipping/exchange rate but my OCD for completeness is now satisfied and since I don't own MoR, I'm OK with not getting those lieutenants hehe.

I hate to fuel your need for completeness but I really like Manor of Ravens (Skarn of course- I even made Skarn the central "enemy" of my in-progress quest design for D2E)- it's a lovely set with some great scenery tiles and Skarn's a great character, but I'll keep quiet so I don't convert you to MoR and Skarn and have you feeling like you must get those too. Even if Skarn is my favourite piece and entity of both Descent versions :)

Yeah, out of all the lieutenants in the game, Skarn has probably the best mini (the only real competitor is Valyndra but she gets extra points for being a dragon). I really like Belthir's miniature too.

NoOoOoo...must ignore... lol

From a Skarn fanboy lol, just to fuel the fire

Serena is now braving the seas and on the boat to make a return

Funny, it says the Farrows are in the shops now, but there's no news of them even coming to my local game store or distributors. Weird.

I don't know where you are located but I had to order these from the US (I'm in Canada) as my FLGS couldn't tell me when they'd get them or if they were even on order!

Product probably reaches some shops faster than others (and if you're not US based it can be a bit of a hunt for who has them or can give you the best info on when they will), there's usually one of the reliable stores who'll be able to fulfill your order though.

For Farrows you can try bookdepository. All Farrows are there at price 9,5 euros and with no shipping cost.
