Decided to randomly insult most of the player base. See if you recognise your self! Bonus points if anyone can think up any categories I have missed as there will be some.

I'm definitely a casual player, even though I don't play DOOM.
...or Destiny.
...or WOW.
Though it's true that I don't play L5R online in part because most of my time at home is spent playing Lord of the Rings Online.
No clan loyalist category?
Edited by Joe From CincinnatiWell, your post made me go and read the whole 30-pages-thread about Pierson cheating (a.k.a. Drawgate, a.k.a. This is from him), which incidentally took me to another page with the whole story about that blind OL5R player that was also a cheater (I only knew he existed, but not the whole deal).
So, yeah, great... now I’m extremely paranoid about anybody I play with...

I did the exact same thing! Man, what an afternoon spent reading 2 year old drama :P.

Oh, don't be so suspicious! Just sit down next to this oddly-angled mirror, enjoy all the distractions surrounding you, and have a nice, casual, friendly game. Say, $20 a province?
Edited by JJ48That thread was epic all over. I hope he sorted his life out in the end. With that level of sock puppetry a career in marketing or Sales might await.

Sorry, I can’t.
You see, I went to my LGS today and had a game with this guy in a wheelchair... let’s just say that I may have made some accusations about “pretending a disability to be able to cheat” and “hiding cards in that cheating-artifact that you call a wheelchair” that raised more than one concern about my mental stability. The fact that the guy didn’t “start miraculously walking, you’ll all see” when I tossed him off from his wheelchair didn’t exactly help my case.
Long story short, I now have a restraining order, I’m banned from my LGS, and I have been forbidden for playing cards anymore.

I lost against that blind player at Worlds the year he was caught. I had a (good) reputation in L5R at that point and the TOs were stunned that I lost my game so quickly. Dude literally had the perfect aggro combo every game.

Was he Irish? (Sorry, your story just reminded me of an episode of "The IT Crowd")

In all seriousness now, that must’ve suck. Not only for being cheated, but also for being certain about it but not knowing how. And of course, you have to be polite about it because how are you going to accuse a poor blind guy of cheating?
I know about a guy who saved a lot of money just to go to a Kotei in the CCG era. It was just a one time in his life thing, but he really wanted to be part of L5R story. Just thinking about him losing to a cheater and then founding out... he would have cried, to say the least.
I played against a guy in old5r that blatantly tried to pick up from the discard he had played the previous turn. When I asked him his card count and he was 1 higher than he should be, I asked him to explain it. He said he must have drawn an extra by mistake and put his "last card drawn" into the discard. I then asked him "what about the copy of the card you played last turn that is still in your hand?" He almost tried to make some sort of excuse, but, I stopped him before he could, I played a Destiny Has no Secrets (which reveals your hand to your opponent when played) to show him that no amount of cheating was going to save him that game. He conceded and immediately dropped from the tournament. I never saw him again, but, other players said they had and he had been accused and even caught cheating on several occasions.
With as many moving pieces as there are in this game it's very important to keep track of everything. Variable honor bids, extra fate from seeker role flips, passing first, paying honor for cards.......etc. I've seen casual games where players 'forget' some of these things. Whether intentional or not, it's hard not to be skeptical of such misplays after having seen people cheat, first hand. I really hope cheaters are not one of the player types that find their way into this game.

Went to a tournament over the weekend, where a Dragon player I played against picked up his Niten Master with about 6+ attachments, was still holding his hand of cards, put the Niten Master down, and suddenly went from 3 cards in hand to 4. I pointed his out and he argued that he had always had 4, despite me asking just a minute prior. I assumed he pulled an attachment to put on Yokuni. Guy was in a sour mood from the moment I sat down so I didn't press the issue but I was confident he was trying to cheat me.
great thread to read, blind cheater was good read too. missed the link to wheelchair cheater, cry
Man I remember that Pierson thread. I took part in it. Still can't believe it. What happened to playing with honour.
Sadly, for some winning equals fun. How they win does not matter, as long as they win

And will take everything that isn't nailed down (and some of the stuff that is if we're given enough time) and make it ours.

Don't play with honor! Leave the honor where it is unless you need to add to or take from it. The more you play with it, the more your opponent will think you're up to something.

Sadly some times people are coddled too much and they turn like Satorii in the new fiction - totally believing the lies they've been told because no one confronts them with reality. They take advantage of the deference given to them to take all they can. Who's going to call out the prince of Rokugan for sucking with a sword? Who's going to call out the blind guy for cheating?
