I am seeing it in about 5 hours. For those who have seen it: what is your ranking on all the Star Wars movies now?

Solely my opinion, of course, but in terms of quality of film...

1 - Empire Strikes Back

2 - Rogue One

3 - A New Hope

4 - Return of the Jedi (I have a ridiculous soft spot for this film)

5 - The Last Jedi (though it's roughly on par with TFA for me)

6 - The Force Awakens

7 - Revenge of the Sith

8 - Attack of the Clones

9 - The Phantom Menace

(Note: this was a surprisingly difficult list to write)

The standing after one viewing is as follows. This can and will change with repeat viewings:

1: The Empire Strikes Back

2: A New Hope

3: Rogue One

4: Return of the Jedi

5: The Last Jedi

6: The Force Awakens

7: Revenge of the Sith

8: Attack of the Clones

9: The Phantom Menace

1: The Empire Strikes Back

2: Rogue One

3: A New Hope

4: Revenge of the Sith

5: Return of the Jedi

6: The Force Awakens

and everything after that is just a toss for worst place, so in no particular order:

7: Attack of the Clones

8: The Last Jedi

9: The Phantom Menace

Just saw it. Thought it was good. Dont see the need for pompous arrogance.

That and a bunch of others. Basically everything from 4-min on, here...

Wayyyyyyy more useful to the story than droid heads being swapped around.

In that scene with Obi-Wan and Mace that fighter is just teasing them!

'Sure, walk toward me. I'll just move away from you. . .'

Couldn't he have gotten in and then it move out?

Hmmm. Only just seen it tonight, so initial placement...

1 - Rogue One

2 - Return of the Jedi (yes, this is not a great movie, but it came out right at the right age for it to be basically the first SciFi/action movie I ever saw, so...yeah)

3 - Empire Strikes Back

4 - A New Hope

5 - Last Jedi

6 - Phantom Menace

7 - Revenge of the Sith

8 - Attack of the Clones

9 - Force Awakens

Jar Jar is pretty **** annoying, yes, but beyond that - it's one of the better films for sheer world-building. I mean, given what we had 'canonically' of Star Wars at the time, and so much of the EU just endlessly riffing on existing content, this added SO much completely-fresh depth to the universe. (And Liam Neeson was amazing) Of the prequels, it's (IMHO, obviously) the most re-watchable.

I mean, it was just lots of boring talking but yes the world building was good and Darth Maul had a good lightsaber scene.

'Boring' talking? Hah! Talking is the best part! I'm surprised it's a questioned idea on the Armada forum, though. I mean, surely of anyone, we all enjoy a long, slow, deliberate process of dueling wits? :P

IMHO, it's the mindless-action-movies that are dull...I mean, how many times can you see an explosion that is interesting/new/compelling? (FWIW, I'll say that TLJ definitely scores on that point, to its credit)

Phantom menace isn't bad. The story following Qui-Gon and Obi-wan as they get to the bottom of this invasion of Naboo is enjoyable. Maul is a good villian. It's a decent picture of the Republic days of Star Wars, politics and all.

Haden Christensen Aniken creeping on Padme for nearly the entirety of the second plunges it to rock bottom in my estimation. This is far worse than the easily ignored antics of Jar-jar or the clonking of balsa-wood dialogue from the secondary characters.

This film was good, though like Blade Runner, prepare for a ride. It's long and full of content that is interesting enough to be a Star Wars film, just not gripping-tight because there are so many characters to follow around. It certainly has a lot more 'feel' to it than The Force Awakens. Plenty of gratuitous and awesome action, great and well-placed humor. I enjoyed it, and I look forward to the next showing.

And now I will have to avoid the internet for a week till I get to see the film on the 21st

Wish me luck!

It also scores mad points for being the last film where most of the space vehicles and combat were filmed using physical models vs CGI.

Including, yes, the Naboo ships (which everyone always seems to assume are all CGI)...

I do! I'm watching it even later than you are, so I hope you make it, for both our sakes.

Well, they say in the audio commentary how hard it was to do the effect of reflections on it in space, so for those scenes it was basically CGI

Pure based on the quality of the film and not the backstory filled in by nerds, authors, or interviews afterwards. ONLY what is on screen

1:The Last Jedi

2:Empire Strikes back

3:Rogue One

4:The Force Awakens

5: A New Hope

6: Return of the Jedi

7: Revenge of the Sith (would rank below TPM if TPM didn’t have Maul and the music score)

8:The phantom menace (the good parts are amazing, but the bad parts are nigh unwatchable).

9: Attack of the clones (there was no exceptional or noteworthy note except how bad the love story was)

The ending of TLJ is an art piece that sells the movie for me.

Taste is varied.

I'd rather watch Revenge again that Last Jedi.

hearing /seeing that this movie is marmite..... you love it or you hate it!

This wait is gonna kill me. I can't go until the 21st.

I feel for your excrutiating wait. I am going on the 17th and I'm dying, so best of luck in the holding up!!

Interesting to see how everyone is ranking things. Seems TLJ is pretty divisive though. After seeing TLJ once (honestly I feel this is the kind of movie you need to see twice to really see how you like it) I personally rank the Star Wars movies as:

1. Empire Strikes Back

2. A New Hope

(there is a big gap here)

3. The Last Jedi

4. Return of the Jedi

5. The Force Awakens

6. Rogue One

7. Revenge of the Sith

(there is a really big gap here)

8. The Clone Wars

9. The Phantom Menace

24 hours to go.... can they go any slower, I feel like I'm on board a Victory right now.....
