Anyone count how many star destroyers the new order had? 5 would be my guess but could be up to 8. That radus must be speed 4 with engine techs!

I think 5 in the opening scene? About the same when Mega-Wing Star Destroyer appears?

But this isn't the entire FO fleet. They are talking about the Silly Big Cannon Star Destroyer as one of many dreadnoughts. And also about how the FO will soon have control of all the major systems.

Whereas at the START to TLJ the Resistance has 1 cruiser and a few support ships, some fighters and bombers, with a combined crew of 400 total - in the entire galaxy. At the end they are down to just the Falcon and a handful of survivors.

They have their work cut out for them!

The rebel fleet will gather near Sullust in 2 years, right before Christmas in fact, in preparation for the attack on the second (unfinished, but fully operational) Starkiller Base.

Just got back from watching it, it was freaking awesome. Lots of laugh out loud moments, loads of deliberate parodies of other moments in Star Wars and various other things, very subtle foreshadowing of key plot points (Rey’s theme is completely unlike anyone else’s and you hear it about 20 mins before it is clarified she is no one special’s daughter) the humour is laugh out loud excellent not jar jar blinks awful, the characters develop, light and dark merge, it carries lots of metaphores for a post Trump world, even the super subtle stable boy using the force to grab a broom 6” away is very well done and very subtle.

defintitey either the best or second best Star Wars film with rogue one being the other.

I'm seeing it in about 4 hours and you just made the wait harder, well done.

Just came out of the cinema and didn't spot any force used in the last scene. It looked to me like he just turned the broom, that he was already holding, around to wield it like a saber.

Did anyone see it who was actually looking out for that and can confirm either way? @Dr alex , are you 100% that was the force?

Its a Crap movie . This isn't even star wars anymore.

Bad storyline , childish humor, bad acting. ( hux like a kid that does not get his cookie).

leia surviving full vacuüm ?

common! Tho FO fleet that cant wipe out 4 little cruisers?

Those Stupid little corgs , wtf

Luke milking a seal to drink it.

they ruïned it , they threw away the old canon, just to replace it with this ****, Its for 5 year old kids.

It realy hurts to see what they Did wit it !

Am angry , star wars was something that helped me throug a bad childhood wit lots of misery . And they just destroyed it , I cant believe that the true old star wars fans/ nerds like me , think this is good .

i realy liked rogue one . But this?

If this is the new standard , Please stop it .

That's all for now. I'm seeing it again tonight, so will hopefully form a more concrete opinion by then. I think if you go in with high expectations, you may be disappointed. If you have moderate expectations, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Now that I've seen it again, I am happy to revise my opinion. Enjoyed it much more the second time around, and more willing to embrace the direction of certain plots (especially the stuff with the Resistance).

The pursuit of the Raddus definitely could've been handled better, but it's made clear from the start that the First Order knows the Resistance only have hours of fuel left, so they are happy to simply chase them down, rather than planning anything more sophisticated. There's a couple of lines in there about being unable to provide covering fire to their fighters at that distance, so that seems to be why they don't launch bombers to take down the Raddus. And Kylo's two companion TIEs are taken down pretty easily by the Raddus, so perhaps it has an above-average anti-squadron battery. (Having said that, the Star Destroyer has no trouble accurately targeting small transports at a great distance at the end of the film, so who knows?)

Princess Leia in space is still ridiculous, and I cringed even more the second time around.

The battle in the throne room is absolutely amazing.

It's certainly true that the plot with Finn and Rose goes nowhere, but their failure seems to be keeping with the theme of the film - a lot of the mistakes made by characters are as a result of their hubris (Poe, Luke, Snoke, etc).

I was looking for it this time, and he definitely uses the force to bring the broom into his hand. Our entire audience let out an impressed "whooo" noise at that point... it was quite funny.

Latest update from FFG...

(Made hastily, but in good humour.)

Post movie buzz had me excited, but after time thinking about it this movie doesn’t deserve such excitement. It was okay, but is deeply flawed. At this point I’m not sure how much excitement I have for seeing new Disney Star Wars movies, especially while still in theaters. I don’t think the current management knows what they are doing, or worse are purposefully driving off old fans for their own reasons.

My thoughts:

It was better than Force Awakens, but definitely not cracking my top 3. Soundtrack was greatly improved vs TFA. Maybe too much humor? I feel like Luke is a bigger ball buster than Obi Wan in the prequels. Definitely some possibilities for ships or upgrades for all of FFG's games.

I enjoyed it. A lot. But it felt kinda weird in parts.

Also, I want THAT Luke for Legion. Somebody get on that mini.

I'll never understand this thought process. What do you think a vacuum is? Do you think Schwarzenegger's expanding face from Total Recall is what's supposed to happen?

Do you know that being submerged 5 meters underwater subjects people to a greater pressure differential when compared to standard atmospheric conditions than actually being in space? Water is also highly thermally conductive, where as a vacuum is not, meaning cold water drains body heat faster than actually being in space.

Also, Darth Vader does that exact same space-float maneuver in the beginning of the new-canon Lords of the Sith book by Paul S. Kemp.

My only BS moment was the Leia scene. I just  at it.

Any who, I quite liked that Poe stole the movie: he had the best lines, the best arc, and had the best delivery (well, tied with Mark). I guess that interaction between Rey and Poe might mean something? By process of relationship elimination, there's really only him left.

The villains, aside from Kylo, are all just thrown away. Phasma was a glorified cameo, Snoke was a joke, and Hux was trolled right at the start. Even the First Order forces are just wrecked multiple times in the film.

I actually wonder when someone will just copy that cruiser's pilot, whatever the purple haired woman's name was, and just use kamikaze light speed attacks to completely destroy fleets. Heck, just program a droid.

Hot takes from me!

Luke was, in a word, excellent.

The Raddus died doing what Admiral Raddus loved, fighting, having ideas, and ramming things.

SuperLeia... I actually thought that was where she was going to die. I think the story might have been better if she did.

I really wanted Rey and Kylo to join hands and rule the galaxy as Finn and Poe try to save it.

Snoake died like a chump and that was cool and good.

I thought it was a festering turd of a film. Just awful. I seriously don't understand the mind of the film-makers here. There were, to be sure, a few good moments; the Hyperdrive ram, the Falcon in the mines dogfight, Rey's moment of understanding the force, the throne room saber battle. That's about it.

@Arttemis

any idee why an astronaut uses a space suit ?

It minus 257 degrees Celsius out there . An no pressure .

And she gets forcefully blown out the cruiser by 2 direct missie hits . Not even a trained Jedi would survive that . Would indeed been better If kylo just blasted her to smittereens.

The movie was good IMO but some things I didn’t like:

Leia flying through space

Snoke’s bathrobe

ADMIRAL ACKBAR DYING!!!!

thats all I can think of right now but Snoke was pretty pathetic. At least the Emperor did something.

Why did they kill Admiral Ackbar?!

on the positive side, I liked:

Yoda’s ghost

Luke’s force powers

I actually didn’t mind Kylo Ren without his helmet, after seeing him break it I kinda didn’t mind it.

On the Leia thing, you could survive in vacuum for up to 90 seconds. That's like facts and stuff.

Not the best filmed sequence, but that part is more plausible than her saving herself with space wizard powers.

End of the Raddus gave me the same reaction as Rogue One: "G****** F*****' RAM FLEETS!!!!"

Yes, I had to watch Luke die, but that was the whole point of the movie...it's time for the older generation to go.

My two big problems:

1) The dialog was too "earth modern" Too many American idioms used, they stuck out to me.

2) If all this takes place within a day or two (or less) of the end of TFA then why the heck is C-3P0's arm gold again?

It's not in that part of the scene - it's when he walks out of the room and reaches out for the broom in the doorway. It jumps about 6 inches forward, into his hand. It's very slight, but also very obvious.

Yeah. You summed it up well Warden. It didn't make any sense that the first order couldn't take down one cruiser even if they launched ties and then collected them as they caught up. I'm fact for such a large fleet where we'e all the ties?

They sort of lampshaded that a bit. "All of this, and we can't destroy a few little ships??"

Still, that's why we all play 'Armada' on a fixed table, no? Plop down a Rebel fleet just outside range, heading full-speed away from you, and let the table 'float', and you're not going to be landing any hits on them. Ever. (Unless you brought along the Demolisher, maybe?)

I got out a bit ago, and while it’s not perfect story-wise, I thought it was great! Just below Empire, which is still my favorite. It’s rare that I cheer at movies, and I did a few times in TLJ.

My positives:

Kylo’s method of killing Snoke was amazing!

Luke was funny.

Yoda, and well used!

Rey and Kylo’s interactions were very good.

I think my favorite new Star Wars moment - the lightspeed ramming by the Raddus - that was breathtakingly done.

Poe’s mutiny actually shows that the Resistance/Rebels are not completely unified all the time (and Leia stuns Poe - it’s fantastic).

Luke’s force illusion!

Poe “holding” for Hux was hilarious - caught him monologing, if you’re a fan of the Incredibles.

Negatives:

Snoke had almost no development, and is criminally underused.

Phasma is underused - again.

Finn and Rose’s mission could be cut and not change the movie at all.

Leia in space - it’s ok. Shows her force power.

Overall I liked it a lot, and I’m lookig forward to seeing it again.

The kid at the end does force pull the broom into his hand, sweeps a bit, then clearly holds the broom like a saber.

Although, when did Luke put the Jedi books into the Falcon?
