and yet the second Death star was protected by a shield they had to lower and raise to let ships through. Scarrif was protected by a similar impenetrable shield.

The Scarif shield showed that fighters couldn't pass through it, true. (Death Star superlaser did though - while the gate was gone, the shield itself was still up when it opened fire on Scarif on low power.)

I think Captain Canady and the Fulminatrix (the Dreadnought) got a bit of an unfair treatment in this film. I mean, come on...one bomber destroying a 7.6 kilometer long siege platform? Not completely accurate.

I think that the round thing that they bombed was the reactor. The reactor is normally on the bottom of star destroyers, but the dreadnought has the guns there, so it got moved closer to the top.

I think the conclusion could be that fighters do indeed penetrate shields of ships, then fire from within the shield bubble. But they cannot penetrate planetary grade shields. This would also mean missiles will penetrate ship's shields. I can't recall that they mentioned that the turrets were outside the shields in the Poe vs dreadnought encounter. If so, potentially the Dreadnought tightened its shields to keep the hull protected, leaving just the turrets exposed?

Rogue One kinda messes with this though, as when the Rebel flagship is swarmed by Tie-fighters they yell that shieldpower is reduced.

This ruins my CYOA loving childhood.

To be fair, that bomber dropped what looked liked over a thousand thermal detonators on the Fulminatrix...

Reminded me of a similar scene in Alien: Covenant.

Yeah no kidding. Is it sad that I didn't even think about it because I automatically knew it was because they were outside command range? =D

Confirmed... kylo won't get rogue and the MSD can't take boosted comms! :P

Going by Wookieepedia, you are almost exactly right (the exact figure is 1048, and they are proton bombs)

That would make sense... I wonder, where is the reactor on the Resurgents? Is it in the same position as on the ISD?

I still want a Dreadnought, even though it probably wouldn't fit scale-wise in Armada :)

Holy **** that really amps up the power level. Maybe over 9000.

Really though it would be next to impossible to give this bomber a proper Armada treatment. If a single bombers payload can wipe out a dreadnought, even if aimed at a weak spot, that would be like 20 black dice.

We haven't really seen the space combat capabilities of any capital ships in the new trilogy. They have merely been set pieces for character scenes.

So who knows how these ships compare in capability to each other, much less stuff from the OT.

My kid just said to another kid “Jedi can do whatever they want to in space”

I was indifferent to this movie, but now I’m firmly in the camp for euthanizing it

The folks creating these the-fans-are-awful memes know this latest film is a bad movie even before we get to whether or not it is bad Star Wars don't they?

Buggered if I know.

I haven’t seen it yet.

Yeah, but an ISD ramming another ISD destroyed them both, so I think we're fine. 3 dice bomber would be fine.

That's a very smart and perceptive analysis. Well done! There really is a lot to like in the film, and you've done a good job of putting much of it in perspective.

I think speed 1, 4 dice and a price reflecting it would work better, after all, they still need a fighter screen to survive, and you won't be bringing many if they came, cos you need their cover and support, so bringing 3 should be a heavy investment on making them work, so maybe 3 dice just wouldn't be worth it, would be better off taking a B-wing

This was my take:

Resistance B/SF-17 Bomber

Hull: 8

Speed: 2

Anti-Squadron: 2 blue

Battery: 1 black, 2 blue

Bomber, Heavy, Counter 1

Points: 19

Hull 8? Don't they explode when faced with a stiff breeze? :P

Oh wow, I was thinking a bit more racked up on the damage output ( It does have 1048 proton bombs after all) and it takes a LONG time to get to the point, it looks ultra slow, so I thought speed 1 would fit it better. So more like:

Hull:8

Speed:1

AS: 2 blue

Battery: 4 black

Bomber, Heavy, Counter 1

Points: 20

Would need a lot of external investment like FCT or likely popular in a RLB

Just gotta fly them further away from each other :P

Add keyword:

Primed Payload:

"When you are destroyed, if you are within close range of an enemy ship, each squadron without the keyword Primed Payload within distance 1 suffers 2 damage. Squadrons with the keyword Primed Payload suffer 4 damage."

From what we see once those bombs are armed they do not handle impacts well. lol
