Duel Decks at home

Casual Player here. I don't really play out, and 94% of my games are against my friend, using my collection. I decided to make two 'duel decks' that were specifically designed to be played against each other. I did the deck building, and the idea was to play them repetitively against each other, tweaking them as needed. I don't know the original decks card for card, but they are designed around what follows,

Hero Deck

eQui-Gon/ eRey(awakenings) with the bf that lets you play a support for 1 less from discard or hand.

I don't have a Huge collection, I've never bought a box, just 2-3 packs here and there. My friend likes Qui-Gon as a character a lot.

Villain Deck

Krennic / FO Stormtrooper/ FO Stormtrooper with Ewok village (remove shields from a character)

Krennic is a character I really like, his ability is really cool, too.

So I wanted to make these decks balanced so the Krennic side is fast enough where they can get the battlefield 50% of the time, but had to work for it. The heroes would be able to block this, having the natural advantage of only having two characters, but they might have to time it right to make it work. I heavily doused the hero deck in shield generating cards, and things that played off of them. I tried to work as much shield removal and damage into the Krennic deck as feasibly possible.

we played about 6 games with the original decks over a few weeks. the first few were close, and the hero deck won one once we learned them, the villain deck become unbeatable. Work was needed. Also realized that our games would take 2 hours, since we are always competing against each other, we have a lot of 'mind game' that takes too much time. Since we wanted to get more practice in, we decided on timing the games. Settled on 45 minutes. more than a tournament round, but short enough that we could reliably get at least 2 games in, keeping it the short game it's supposed to be.

What a difference! after the first timed game, it was so easy to play faster, the game was much more fun, and we both started thinking more critically about the decks. The Hero deck was sub-par, so we separated it all out on the table, and made some switches, thinking about what we want the deck to do. It wasn't an overhaul, just a handful of changes, but more importantly, it got my friend into thinking about the way his deck worked, and was the first time he saw the whole deck laid out for him. He analyzed what cards he found himself not using much, and what cards he could use a second copy of or what can replace what. Also replaced the BF to Maz's Castle

Our next 3 games consisted of the hero deck winning, twice with him playing, one with me playing it. So we figured it was time to mess around with the villain deck. to get to the point, We took out Krennic and put in eVeers, which was a tough decision, because I liked the tension of the battlefield being really important. I also culled a few that never got used much, or would be hard to pay for.

I look forward to trying these out soon! I'm also glad my friend is now into the deckbuilding Aspect

Sounds like you can switch the battlefield (bf that lets you play a support for 1 less from discard or hand) to the villain deck as Veers will work out well with all of the supports. Really excited for you to have a buddy that enjoys the game. Deckbuilding is easily my favorite part, especially when trying to come up with strange pairings that (sorta) work. I'm in the middle of a SoR Vader/eBazine/FO trooper deck using the emperor's throne room muhaha.

This is why we play, the fun of deck construction, seeing what different cards do and how they interact. I have 7 decks built right now and enjoy all of them. Sure R2P2 or R2Sabine usually dominate, but Mace and Palp win if they roll hot. If Mace is hot, he is unbeatable. He can melt characters but he can also fly out the window quickly too.

I still love playing and tweeking my first deck that I played in tournament at GenCon 50 this year. Got a lot of, whoa, never seen that build before. Its my versions of a "Three Amigos" deck based around Death Trooper, Death Trooper, Death Trooper. It throws a lot of damage consistently and if you can pull of an Endless Ranks (or two), it is really disheartening to play against. Also pair it with Wingman and Training and you can be a real killer. Your basic aggro deck for SWD. It's the deck I use to teach new players into the game basics and not get bogged down with the meta.

I've been trying to get a build going for my "Three Little Pigs" deck that is based around 3 Gamorrean Guards. Villian, yellow, built in guardian on each and a starting life total of 33. Its fun and clearly a kitchen table deck built around melee.

Both decks are fun, but I love the red aggro!!

Go 2 Gamorreans and 1 Death Trooper haha

My current fun deck is 'chewy, wookie, wookie' with two second chances it takes a long time to kill them. It money poor but if things go well, it can beat anyone.

I'd love a trandoshan bin-unique toon, then I could play Bossk and 2 trandoshans against chewie and 2 Wookiee. That would be so fun
