Legend of Dragonholt: Played

By Elliphino, in Runewars Miniatures Game

I got a chance to play Legend of Dragonholt last night up through the To New Roads adventure and the first couple of encounters in Dragonholt village.

It had some great and familiar references that Runewars minis players will be familiar with and was a great way to get more immersed into the feel of Terrinoth. It didn't add a ton to the lore but already the sense of intrigue within the Baronies is coming out and gives a better perspective about what reasons might justify Daqan forces fighting against each other.

It would still be great to get more info on how the regions of Terrinoth connect together, but for a Runewars player, it was a pretty satisfying way to make the world feel more personal.

Also, I should say that the game play was top notch and the game components extraordinary and well thought out. It was my buddy's copy so I didn't have a good feel for what was in the box, so I kept being pleasantly surprised when an encounter ended with the players actually getting a real life artifact mentioned in the game. The encounter says you get a map, and there in the box is a map. You receive a letter, and there in the box is a letter for you to pull out and read. It was very cool and I'm looking forward to the next session.

I also played the first quest with a friend. It was cool to fill in the world some. I love their take on orcs.

Have my copy. Can't wait to play it. Also have around 6 other things waiting to be played, so...

Been waiting since release for my copy.

I hate FFG's (Asmodee I should say) distribution in Canada :(

I've been through To New Roads, and the Goblin one, and the first 2 days of Dragonholt Village. It's been a fun story... a little better when enhanced with brews from the Chatty Archer. Let's just say the decisions get a little more free and loose.

Could you tell us more about their 'take' on Orcs? Please?

Our group mainly ignored the opportunities we had to hear about the Orc's background, seeking out the action in the story instead. Maybe someone else will have more information. But for the most part they're an accepted part of civilization, if a little gruff. You can read some of their background in the character creation materials here: https://images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com/filer_public/34/f1/34f14943-906c-41a4-82c0-b52e2834d0d4/legacy_of_dragonholt_character_creation_copy.pdf

Orcs are very family-oriented, with the concept of "family" often extending toward the whole tribe. A common archetype in Terrinoth is the Spiritspeaker - an orc who draws magic from nature by communing with spirits, particularly those of deceased ancestors.
