Debt and Hacking for Funds

By Kakita Shijin, in Genesys

I'm working on an Android game, maybe just an adventure to try out the rules. Anyway, I thought it would be cool to have a hacker character steal some money to fund the party.

I'm also considering allowing characters to go into debt for gear.

The Android universe is pretty new to me, I do have the Worlds of Android Book but I haven't read the whole thing yet. Anybody got any good ideas for me?

Are you aware of the Obligation mechanics in EotE? They might be just what you're looking for.

I've been thinking about those recently and how they might fit at a Genesys table. Some combination of Duty/Obligation would probably work best, but then the math might get screwy.

Huzzah! #highfive

Since its all just 0s and 1s you could skip the money and have them hack to have gear shipped direct like it was paid for. Could be a session(s) all alone, arranging for untraceable pick up locations and such.

Good example of why I never give my guys a ship in SW. Too easy for a game idea to pass up.

Might be easier to have it shipped to someone's home, who can't restrain themselves from broadcasting their absence by posting silly photos of and comments on their vacation site every other minute; then a little breaking and entering...

Can I suggest you get the video game Watch_Dogs (and its sequel)? Nothing has inspired me around hacking in an RPG (modern, cyberpunk) as much as this game has. The idea you could be running a programme to essentially virtually pickpocket someone fits the narrative so well, especially if you upgrade the difficulty to include a challenge dice. Filching 200 credits then tipping your hand so the cops are onto you and having to run (thanks, Obama Despair!) is thematically appropriate and a good way of ensuring the PC's don't end up with "One Hundred Million Dollars".

@Endersai I'll definitely check out some gameplay videos on YouTube, thanks!

@Endersai Dude, that game is real cool . Thanks!
