Phantom and Bomb fun!

By Herr Style, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I know that I'm getting Tie Phantom this Christmas from the wife (I actually ordered it on her behalf). So I was wondering what I could pair it up with, and came up with this list modified from another one I saw online.

TIE Punisher: · "Redline" (27)
Extra Munitions (2)
Plasma Torpedoes (3)
Ion Bombs (2)
Guidance Chips (0)

TIE Bomber: Gamma Squadron Veteran (19)
Deadeye (1)
Extra Munitions (2)
Proton Torpedoes (4)
Seismic Charges (2)
Guidance Chips (0)

TIE Phantom: · "Echo" (30)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Collision Detector (0)
Advanced Cloaking Device (4)
Recon Specialist (3)
-- TOTAL ------- 100p. --

So Redline and Gamma Vet take you head on, whilst Echo flanks. Bombers advance, (hopefully) Target Lock, fire a torp(GV can focus). Next turn drop a bomb, Redline K turns, fires another torp. GV won't be able to TL but can captilise on the Ion Bombed target hopefully. Echo can dance around the flanks!

Any thoughts?

Edited for grammar lol. Not bad from an Android

Looks like it could be fun casually, but be aware that the two bombers don't have the staying power to go right at most other jouster lists. LW Frame may help the bomber. Echo is a little bit of awesome, and if you get good at piloting her only High PS turrets scare her much, and she can solo a list with great piloting and some luck. If I were to fly against it I would likely try to drop the GV before it can shoot, which is possible with most ace type lists. It would be a great way to learn to fly Echo, but in a tournament you will likely bleed MOV even if you do clear the table of your opponents ships.

Echo is fun, but my experience is these glass cannons are pretty much dead if you don't have VI Whisper. I also pretty much consider FCS a necessity since they can't TL by themselves. so my next look is I take a look at your list and see how I would fly if facing it, and I don't see many reasons not to target the phantom first. it's the most deadly piece in my opinion, so I would be focusing my start at Echo (especially if I beat him in PS to fire before he has a chance to cloak) Give it a go, and see what you think, but my experience is that you will find Echo will die fairly quick, and you'll be stuck with low agility bomber and punisher.

I looked at it, and I think you'd really have fun with a similar concept, but tied into just Whisper itself.

Whisper, Veteran instincts, Fire Control Systems, Weapons engineer, and Advanced cloaking. Its a stronger, self sustaining phantom.

If you're trying to use Ion bombs, I'd play with deathrain as a punisher instead. You can drop it out your front or your rear, the extra munitions lets you bomb twice. It forces someone to choose between your phantom or Deathrain who is a force on his own. especially if you throw a prox mine with him as well. get someone in range with Deathrain after movement, drop a prox mine on them, shoot them with what you got, next turn when you reveal your maneuver template you can drop ion bomb. they have to pay attention to him.

just my adjustments, but Play your list, tinker it a bit, and try some new things. I will say everyone likes the concept of Echo, but Echo struggles compared to Whisper. not impossible, struggles.

This is definitely fun only as I don't go to tournies. I think I will give this a go, possibly putting in Whisper, and swapping bombs and torps/ missiles around if it seems to struggle. I have also considered Col Vessery and giving both bombers Long Range Scanners too.
