Army Painter black spray on the base and stand, hand painted acrylic on the ship connector, black paint marker on the cardboard edges.

I use green, but I'm tempted to buy some purple or spray some black.

What paint do people recommend?

I got my bases as a mixed set, and I tend to try to actively have different colours in a list. I've got a blue and an orange large base, and a mix of blue, purple, green, and orange small bases. When playing with my son, we use base colour instead of number tokens to identify ships, going with alphabetical order of the colour.

I use blue (to match my hair!) on all of my Imp ships.

I’m still just using all the clear ones that come with my ships. Though I may buy colored ones for when I go to Adepticon System Open.

I went for the FFG purple as my custom templates are purple. Gotta match!

Testors spray paint. Easy-peasy. Then you can have any color you want.

Just tape the peg that inserts in the ship to minimize paint on it. Or, in truth, you can paint willy-nilly and flake the paint back off the peg with a paring knife.
