Just to be clear, you don’t have to spend the Target Lock to fire a Harpoon but can you then spend the Target Lock to re-roll dice during the attack?
Using Target Lock with Harpoon
Yes.
Thanks. Just seems too good to be true! These are deadly when paired with Long Range Scanners.
Harpoons are arguably too good. Even just a 4 die non-spend missile at 4 points might have been too good.
They are a tad too good but atleast they arent absolutely ridiculous, just a bit ridiculous.
Homing Missiles' main claim to fame was they were the only missile that didnt spend the TL, which is the big reason it was 5pts. Cruise missiles as it is removed them from the game because for 2pts less as long as you moved 3speed you got the same attack, 4speed you got abetter attack. Now we get harpoons for 4pts...making the only difference between them and homers are the anti-evade (which never does ANYTHING because people will just focus instead of evading)

Do you think Homings would be worthwhile if you could not spend/use ANY tokens in defense? I am thinking primarily of reinforce tokens.
That might make it a bit crazy since now we have reloading ships.
Imagine an OS-1 with Adv SLAM and Homing Missiles. Once he gets a lock on you he'll just SLAM Reload Fire, SLAM Reload Fire, SLAM Reload Fire, and you cant do jack about it other than raw greens or potentially autos. That would hit INSANELY HARD lol

The condition is bonkers. It makes them functionally 4.5 to 5 attack dice depending on the list, let alone the splash damage.

If Homing Missiles came out now I would expect the "The defender cannot spend evade tokens during this attack." to be worded as "The defender cannot add evade results during this attack." Thereby neutralizing evade tokens, reinforce tokens, etc. An important thing to remember is, at the time Homing Missiles came out, the rules references technically indicated you "add an evade result" to your dice pool - however the FAQ treated an evade token as cancelling an attack die (thus, at the time, Ten Numb's critical hit result could be cancelled by an evade token) and they have since corrected the mechanic and FAQ (pre-Wave 4) to make it clear that spending an evade token "adds an evade result" to your dice pool. Which is why I believe, were this card to be new in Wave 12/13 it would prevent the defender from adding evade results entirely [note: you WOULD still be able to change rolled dice to evade results; spend focus tokens, reroll defense dice, or a combination thereof].
