Advanced Careers? What about them? They're really..uhm..really what?

By Emirikol, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Just a quick perusal of advanced careers and I'm seeing some issues:

1. Your talent slots prob won't match up with prior careers

2. You still only have 2 talent slots.

3. You get two more skill options (on average)

4. There is NO STANCE METER for acolyte or disciple. Thoughts?

Uhhhh....what are advanced careers for again? What SHOULD they look like in terms of why a player should go that route as opposed to switching to something less cool thematically?

Shouldn't the stance meter match your order/college chosen at the previous career? You can't 'retrain' the order or college so that comes along, I'd bet.

Not sure about the rest. Hoping to see more advanced careers and matching 'stuff' soon.

Yes, your chosen Order or Faith is what sets your Stance Meter for Acolyte and Disciple just like it does for Apprentice Wizard/Initiate.

Most Advanced Careers require that you have completed a previous Basic Career, which means that (assuming you spent the Advance to acquire the Dedication Bonus) you will be gaining the Advanced Career's Career Ability in addition to your current one. Many of these build upon the lead-in Career (the Troll Slayer ability improves when you complete Giant Slayer for example).

They also tend to be cheaper to advance into from the previous Career as they share many of the same traits.

I don't view the Advanced Careers as extraneous or useless at all, just further progression of a particular career path.

That's not a bad way to think about it. Instead of it being a 'metagaming' advanced career (from basic attack actions to 'whirling blade of deathyness') it's deeper into the career. I'm thinking we'll see the higher Rank actions handle more of this, and higher Rank actions require more XP, which means career completions/advances. So it might be intended to all work hand-in-hand rather than when a character hits an advanced career he suddenly gets a bunch of specific career upgrades. I'm reevaluating the depth of the career system (which I mentioned in another subforum) and seeing definite elegance in it. Would like more detail to compare it to, but it will come soon, I'm patient.

Any thougthts on the de-evolution of the slayers from troll to giant though?

jh

why a de-evolution?

in what way is the giant slayer worse than the troll slayer?

I'm curious to know what you're referring to as well. From what I can see, the Giant Slayer has the same Primary Characteristics, Career Skills and Talent slots as the Troll Slayer and also gains the Giant Slayer's Career Ability to deal more damage. What are you viewing as a de-evolution?

nevermind my deevolution comment. :) I was looking at the ts card wrong :)
