VCX-100 Thread

By Npmartian, in X-Wing

When I started X-Wing, my very first list used the Ghost. I have always loved the ship due to its ability to dish out huge damage and take lots in return, no matter how many times it fell off of its peg. So, I decided to create this thread because I love the Ghost and want to talk to other people that also do!

So, with the badly done intro aside, I want to talk builds. Right now, I feel like the generic is the strongest, so I'll mainly be referencing that. This is what I currently use with a docked Phantom I.

Lothal Rebel (35)

Ghost (0)

FCS (2)

TLT (6)

Hera Syndulla(1)

Ezra Bridger (3)

Hits like a ton of bricks, doesn't care about stress, tanks like nobody's business. However, with the advent of Maul, I'm considering this, also with Phantom I.

Lothal Rebel (35)

Ghost (0)

Reinforced Deflectors (3)

Maul (3)

Ezra Bridger (3)

TLT (6)

Lives longer due to not needing FCS, gets lots of offensive mods.

Now, for Phantom II options, I know someone who is using this along with a Resistance Sympathizer w/ Old Title, Rey, and Threepio.

Lothal Rebel (35)

Ghost (0)

Autoblaster Turret (2)

FCS (2)

Crew to taste

AP-5 (15)

Phantom II (0)

Gives out Focus/Evade to the YT-1300, pretty self-sufficient on offense.

Discuss! Rant! Roll obscene numbers of red dice! Throw caution to the wind with the wonderful VCX-100!

(I like this ship too much)

I'm also a huge Ghost fan and have used it many ways. I've used your first build in multiple tournaments and while I do really enjoy it, it does care about stress. I've been 5 stress deep and taken a major hull breach as my very first damage card. 9 more (at most) crits coming through... I've also lost a game by burning to death with a console fire... I even had a game with both major hull breach AND console fire, which triggered and dealt major explosion, which triggered and dealt direct hit which killed the Ghost!

The point is, the Ghost always cares about stress it has too many hull points to ignore fixable crits.

My current favorite build is: TLT, reinforced deflectors, wookiee commandos. Commandos give re-rolls so they make FCS less mandatory, and sits they re-roll focus results, there's little point in focusing. This means the ghost is free to evade every turn. Its ability to soak damage with deflectors and evade is ridiculous. It's especially good in the alpha-strike meta. Nobody wants to waste missiles on the ghost but you can afford to play very aggressively with it.

I'm looking forward to pairing the stealthbeatle with it for a cheap M9-G8. Re-rolling all focus and one blank on every TLT shot makes it very, very efficient AND action independant.

My favourite build is:

TLT, Accuracy Corrector with Wookie Commandoes, Engine Upgrade. Try it out, it is really worth it

My favorite build involves three spots of superglue on the model, a metal weight in the base, and a blood sacrifice to at least 5 major deities. (I tried 3 last time and broke the peg housing off the model)

I was thinking about something like this, using the new Phantom II.

Kanan Jarrus (38)
Fire-Control System (2)
Dorsal Turret (3)
Rey (2)
Recon Specialist (3)
Ghost (Phantom II) (0)

Ezra Bridger (Sheathipede) (17)
Wired (1)
Courier Droid (0)
"Chopper" (Astromech) (1)
Guidance Chips (0)
Phantom II (0)

Lowhhrick (28)
Selflessness (1)
Breach Specialist (1)
Maul (3)

Total: 100

The rough idea was to take a fairly classic Kanan build but without the TLT (because I hate the TLT and refuse to run it), Lowhhrick for defensive purposes but also to add some firepower, putting Maul on Lowhhrick allows for re-rolls and Breach Specialist means you can ignore those crits. Then the new shuttle, Ezra as the pilot because you need him somewhere for Maul, then Chopper Astromech and lots of cheap upgrades to feed him.

So we start with the Phantom II docked to the Ghost and fly in close formation with Lowhhrick, we use the free co-ordinate to let Lowhhrick pick up a target lock or focus as he's going to use his action to take the reinforce token. But, and here is where the playstyle differs from the classic Kanan/Ghost, launching the Phantom II out the back of the Ghost around about turn 2 or 3 is actually a really solid move, it adds firepower and means that you can then co-ordinate both the Ghost and Lowhhrick.

Could be interesting to play, might see if I can fly it this weekend.

I'm a big big fan of the bombing Ghost...

Dorsal Turret & Plasma Torp vs TLT is to player taste.

I installed 2 magnets in the bottom hull and glued small strips of sheet metal on the 2 "kickstand" supports on the peg.

I also installed magnets in the base and bottom of the flight stand.

Now I can hold the Ghost upside down by the base, and it has the added weight of a 9v battery, lights and wires!

Can you viably fly this thing WITHOUT a docked shuttle?

Possibly. I did exactly that with Kanan-Rex-Biggs, but that archetype is dead.

I know some do. Being a large base, my opinion is there are too many blind spots without a docked shuttle.

The Ghost is one of my favorite builds, specially in epic. Always thought VCX should have some sort of energy use or team use.

Favorite build so so far is Kanan with recon specialist.

Also a massive Ghost fan here. To the point I exclusively fly the Ghost or Phantom in every tournament I go to, but I have to change up the specific list each time for my own sake and challenge. Won the last tournament with:

GHOST RECON

Kanan, Sensor Jammer, TLT, Recon Specialist, Rey, title, Engine Upgrade

with Zeb docked and Chopper crew and an auto blaster turret equipped (a nasty surprise for aces in the end game)

wingman is Ahsoka with VI, Captured TIE, and Recon specialist on board.

Fly them close together and the Ghost becomes crazy survivable with sensor jammer forcing enemies to spend their focused or shuts down shots, and has combat round quasi-skill 12 repositioning with Ahsoka triggering a boost. Very deadly fun

That said I am also a huge fan of running a bare bones autoblaster/Accuracy corrector/wookie commandos as a wingman.

I'm really looking forward to the end of round coordinate shenanigans that the new Phantom will give the Ghost. And can see a nearby Black One Poe being a great candidate for coordinating.

Ghost Recon :D

Nice

Non-docked vcx's are one of the few balanced ships in the game. Though adding TLT pushes them into too good territory IMO.

Also I'm not a fan of giving it the evade action.

Absolutely. It needs to be a complimentary piece rather than soul of the list though. The most common pairing is Dash and Ghost. Traditionally this would be an Autoblaster based build running about 40 points, with a fully teched out Dash.

However, I highly, highly recommend shaving points off Dash to switch to TLT, reinforced deflectors, wookiee commandos. The value of TLT is well established at this point and wookiees are amazing on it.

While each of them have the donut hole problem, with proper spacing they can cover each other.

But the ghost can be used extremely aggressively while dash plays a more patient game to avoid getting boxed in and killed.

I love the ghost, I can't fly it worth a dang, but I really do like it!

My current favorite ghost list is

Lothal + tl

Lothal + tlt

Zeb-Shuttle

I'm 100% with you on TLT+wookiee commandos (as evidenced by every other one of my posts on this thread), but the accuracy corrector seems redundant. Is it worth it to have the floor of 2 hits and ceiling of 3? Two crew and one system for a consistent TLT, I'm not convinced...

I think advanced sensors would serve you better there. With the engine upgrade, you can boost before you reveal your maneuver, or evade before a K-turn. That flexibility, I think, is better than two TLT upgrades that are never working simultaneously.

Also, do you use this combination on all 4 pilots, or is there a specific pilot you prefer?

I went 5 - 0 in a store championship before the cut using this (ended up 3rd out of 28 I think). Also had 12 wins in a row against different people and won 3 quarterly tourneys with it. Also put the hurting on the last two Stele winners with this list. Won one of those games and barely lost to Stele Ladies.

I'm sure with the new stuff I can update but Im having a lot of fun with imps now. I have considered switching out tlt y for Fenn support.

Haha thanks it's my favorite build at the moment

This is my Ghost list I plan on running at my Regionals tourney

Squadron: Regionals Squadron

Didn't add text.

Lothal Rebel with TLT/Wookiee Commandos/Collision Detector/Title and Zeb with Chopper/Title is 60 points. I'm 50/50 going to fly it as my first round in a Escalation tournament tomorrow.

I love Wookiees on a Ghost, or Accuracy Corrector which is amazing there, but I don't necessarily love them together. They feel kind of redundant. Wookiees changes a plain AccC Ghost from a 87.5% chance of 2 hits, 12.5% chance of 3 into a 75.6%/24.4% split. I mean, it's nice, but I'd rather diversify options. Plain Wookiees have a 31.6% chance of fewer than 2 hits, 43.9% chance of 2, and 24.4% chance of three. That's not as good as plain AccC, but it'd allow a different System upgrade.

Reinforced Deflectors tempts me, but I haven't gotten around to playing it. Getting 3 or 4 extra shields over the course of a game could buy the Ghost an extra turn in the damage race. Advanced Sensors, particularly with an Engine Upgrade, seems like it'd be amazing. Boosting into a 5-K, Evading before a tight move somewhere or just flying over an obstacle is pretty nifty.

Alternately, going for Hera crew on an Accuracy Corrector version could be really handy, or Intelligence Agent to leverage the boost better.

It's totally valid to double-down on effects: redundancy is another word for consistency. It's just not my personal preference.

I've begun the deconstruction process of my second Ghost to modify the docking bay to fit the phantom 2. I'm really hoping I get that dremmel tool I asked for for Christmas!

Good luck! Wanting to do the same.

Entertaining fly my Ghost for the first this Tuesday (Instead of Rey/Poe)

Currently looking at Autoblaster Heragator, with Raging Ezra and VI Ahsoka

Definitely for casual/fun, but I always enjoyed this Ghost build:

latest?cb=20151211212450 latest?cb=20130708222216 latest?cb=20140811172437 latest?cb=20140731235117 latest?cb=20151204223244

Just make that thing live forever, and stack up a bazillion tokens! For full on funsies, try the ultimate token-stacking fat-turret build (sadly, there's no room for the Reinforced Deflectors or for TLT):

•Kanan Jarrus (49) - VCX-100
Collision Detector (0), Autoblaster Turret (2), •Lando Calrissian (3), Recon Specialist (3), •Experimental Interface (3)

•Chewbacca (51) - YT-1300
Push The Limit (3), Recon Specialist (3), •Jan Ors (2), •Millennium Falcon (old) (1)

Basically, Chewbacca gets focus, evade, evade each round and Kanan gets focus, focus, (Lando)!
