It's official: the First Order are Space Nazis

Han captained the Falcon, which was crewed by Chewie. Chewie also didn’t have a choice in supporting the rebels or being a hero since he, you know, had the whole life debt thing.

Luke piloted his fighter, which had R2 as ‘crew’. R2 is also property, even if he’s well liked.

3PO...getting a medal? Really? Come on.

while we are at it, why didn’t Wedge get a medal? Maybe because he didn’t RESCUE THE PRINCESS and ensure the plans made it to the rebel’s in the first place. All wedgie did was what Han, Luke and every other pilot in the rebellion did, fly in a mission against the DS.

A valid argument .. if you're assuming the medal was for their actions in that final single battle. I would argue that the medal was for valour and awarded for their bravery in boarding a death star, liberating a princess and getting the plans to exploit the Death Star's weakness (leading to the destruction of the Death Star - a major blow to the Empire and saving the Rebellion from annihilation)...

...all of which Chewie played an integral part.

If he was simply crew, why would they award him a place of honour on the dias?

Nope. Chewie should have received a medal.

In the novels (both Legends and newcanon), Chewie did receive a medal - just not onscreen.

Also, at the end of A New Hope, there is not a single non-human at the medal ceremony other than Chewie.

What if we only saw the 'English' ceremony which was full of English speakers. The 'Wookiean' ceremony was yesterday and Chewie was recognised in front of delegates from Kashyyyk in a presentation relevant to Wookiee Culture.

The Mon Calamari presentation is tomorrow at 10:00 followed by a light morning tea.

Yeah, Chewbacca Comics! (A new Marvel series from last year). The trade paperback is only like $10. A fun read, I'd definitely suggest it.

Nazi inspired rather than actual Nazis then? Nazi-esque militarism? Is Space Wehrmacht more appropriate?

I do agree that there tends to be way too many comparisons with Nazis in general.

I tend to agree with this.

Except when they depict the bad guys with giant red, and black banners and speeches to vast armies of white guys led by a guy who would have a hard time being more Aryan, lol.

ERM so far as we know most troopers could be black like Finn.

And the Nazis were actually competent monsters at the start where the first order is a joke that's no threat to anyone.

Marvel is having a stupidly good sale on digital copies of Star Wars comics right now. Legends, canon, and some... weird ones.

The Nazis have never been very competent, but they are _way_ more willing to use political violence than their opponents.

I meant literally white guys. There's no subtlety in Star Wars.

While the Nazis did wrack up a body count via horrific means, I think the First Order would have them beat with the complete destruction of five inhabited worlds and the death toll that came with it.

Nah that's on the republic for being stupid enough to put all their eggs in one basket.

Yeah, they are a very competitive bunch.

I was honestly a little disappointed in that. Granted I have no idea what happened between Rotj and TFA because old legends got nuked but really, we aren’t bothering with coruscant anymore? And now we are going to put our whole fleet in one spot because clearly nothing is evil in the galaxy anymore.... no more pirates, no more thugs, and no more enemy to fight.

oh, wait....

Am I the only one bothered by the fact that not even a nod was given to all the downed pilots who lost there lives in the attack on the Death Star? No "Mustache Award" for Biggs... No solemn statue of Porkins? ****, more concern was shown for a blasted piece of metal (R2D2) than for these valiant pilots!

The population of the Hosnian system would like to disagree with your statement on the First Order. Or they would if they hadn't been vaporized to the last atom.

Well chewie was a general during the clone wars, and the watching troops during the ceremony seemed to respond to his vocalization, so possibly he was given rank in the rebellion (and command of ground forces) instead of a medal.

This seems pertinent.

"Racism was not a problem on the Discworld, because -- what with trolls and dwarfs and so on -- speciesism was more interesting. Black and white lived in perfect harmony and ganged up on green."

issue 6 of the original Marvel run I believe. You don’t need Nucanon or any other crap; the first adaptation was just fine.
