Maul Question

By Browncoat50, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Trying to find a good scum home for Maul. I am trying him on Dace Bonearm (also ion turret, PRS, ion discharger and wired). If my logic stands, If I fire the ion cannon, take stress to re roll, hit, clear stress, use ability to cause one damage and take stress again. When defending wired gives me a focus re roll, next turn if I haven't used a green maneuver I can fire ion turret, re roll with wired, hit, remove stress and then repeat the above.

That about as clear as mud?

Maul’s stress clearing feature is an “after attacking” ability, so you will still be stressed from Maul’s reroll at the point when you need to trigger Dace Bonearm.

No go.

Ah thank you

The oddball here is Dace Bonearm. Unlike Maul or Fire Control System or many other similar abilities, Dace isn't an "after attacking" trigger. He'll trigger when an enemy ship receives an Ion token, no matter when that happens in the turn. When an enemy is hit by an Ion Cannon (it doesn't have to be Dace's), I'd argue that the Ion is assigned in Step 7 of the flowchart, while Maul happens in step 8.

To that end, Maul still might not be a bad fit. If Dace is unstressed when he wants to use his ability and you don't use Maul to reroll dice, Maul will clear the stress Dace assigned himself. This potentially allows two uses of Dace's ability in a turn, such as Dace shooting first (Ion-Stress-Maul), then Kavil with an Ion Cannon Turret shooting second (Ion-Stress). Dace would still need to pull a green next round, in order to clear the second stress and start the process over again.

Dace and Kavil both with VI, ICT, and Vectored Thrusters. I'm chuckling to myself over that.

I Love this! I'm making a squad right now with these two. Now I'm thinking Jostero as the wingman to throw extra attacks after Dace assigns damage
