So I'm normally a regular saber kind of guy, a balked when i saw kylo's.
However occasionally i get the itch tob do something weird.

The lightsaber gauntlet has always been a favorite of mine. https://goo.gl/images/kfhHwZ

The trick is that each handle has the activation/deactivation switch for the OTHER handle, and default to off of not held.

I've never seen this one before, but this is one of the few "non traditional" ones that makes complete sense. Most of them seem to have the "lets stick more crystals into it so it has more death bits!" mentality, that makes it look like someone tried to treat it like a late 90s Japanese import street racer, complete with loads of extra wings, chrome, and all of the neons forever. This one manages to look both practical and smart. I like this a lot. Maybe I should see if I can build a crossguard hilt now...
Alternate hilts, crossguards, and differing blade lengths are all fine; I draw the line at lightwhips.
Our group has a couple of more unusual ones, our ranged expert has a light bayonet on his rifle, and our mechanic a lightsaber cutting torch in his cyberarm.
Edit - And just so it's clear, they have no special mechanical effects thereby.
Edited by DarzilMy current group is largely comprised of traditionalists when it comes to lightsaber hilts (myself included), with the furthest we've gone being a Nautolan Makashi Duelist with a Double-Bladed Lightsaber (Beta PC back when the weapon only had Unwieldy 2) and a Mystic/Seer/Niman Disciple that's recently picked up a Lightsaber Pike.
Personally, I'm very much a traditionalist when it comes to lightsaber designs, and prefer a single-bladed hilt (duel-wielding isn't off the table, but it's a rare PC of mine that indulges) as that better evokes the "lone samurai" aesthetic that a classic Jedi can evoke.
I'm sure someone can find it, but there's an animated clip that was made not long after the TFA teaser trailer that mocked Kylo's crossguard lightsaber by having a bunch of random goobers stepping out with even crazier alternate lightsaber designs, all of which ended horribly for their users.
Normally i agree!

Way back in the day I saw someone who had made up stats for Emperor Palpatines personal starfighter, complete with a cannon that fired the lightsabers of slain jedi. Granted, the lightsabers themselves were perfectly normal.

Take this one, remove the blade at the handle, move the handle to the middle, and make the other blades longer and you've got yourself the most effective lightsaber design ever.
Let's not forget this gem:

On the contrary, do forget.
An idea that's less EU Fanfic level insane like some of that other stuff, but I was thinking that lightsaber shurikens could be fairly nasty. They activate when hurled, sparking up 3-4 tiny shafts of energy. They embed and keep burning, possibly inflicting a burn effect on the target until they are removed. Might be good for punching through armor and softening up a target from range.
If this thread is simply for stupid ideas, then I suggest lightsaber stiletto heels, for all of those cliche femme fatales out there who have to fight people in sexually suggestive ways, I'm looking at tropes like you Widowmaker.
One that I used when I played in my first RPG years ago with West Ends version. I still love this thing and will throw it at my players once the Jedi stuff starts happening.
I had a lightsaber that was double bladed, but the blades length was only several inches, I used the force to spin it like a helicopter blade and control it. Kinda like what Rebels did with their sith ones, but you don't hold it.
I made it a controlled boomerang. Used it in conjunction with my main Saber.
My current character has a gauntlet that can either be an energy shield or triple saber blades (a la Wolverine) that she sometimes dual-wields with her regular saber. Her regular saber has a blaster pistol built into the hilt, though, so I guess that's a little odd too.
Having a mechanical genius as a party member is a real bonus when it comes to customizing equipment.
I think it would be cool to have one of the Japanese MMO greatswords as a Saber
