I am planning to create a small model of the Arkham game board complete with some hills, trees, structures, and terrain. Anyone know of anyone who has done this before? I am looking for some photos and ideas.

Hello Haunster,
This is a project I have been thinking about and trying to do myself since I got the base game when it first came out. Here I am, a few years later and I still have nothing to show for this yet other than a whole notebook full of ideas and drawings.
At any rate, I am glad someone else is trying to take this on and I would be happy to brainstorm with you and exchange ideas.
The links that doctorDR provided are a great help also. It looks nice, but one thing I have an issue with on that board is the small size and cramped space. This has been a major problem so far for me also.
My ideal board would be about the same size of the base game board now 2'x3'=6 sq. feet. This may not be possible though. The major reason for this is two-fold:
1. Scale...I have been looking at N scale, which may be even a bit too big. I chose N scale so far because of the availability of existing kits and details. I have recently considered z scale also, but the availability of kits and details are so scarce that almost everything would have to be scratch built...
2. player space... by this I mean the space for each location and street on the board. This space must exist for monsters, gates, and clues to be placed. My idea for buildings is to make them models that contain closeable boxes inside that will house that locations' cards, for example the general store would have a box for common items inside it. I have experimented so far with heavy duty magnets placed inside the models to be used as devices to keep the lids closed. The bank prototype I have started has the roof on a hinge with a magnet in the roof and also in the bank wall. Bank loans are stored inside. Anyway, with buildings being fully enclosed that means I have to have somewhere outside each building to use as the player area. Some places are thought out fine, parking lot for the diner, and yard for unnameable, etc...but someplaces I seem to be drawing a blank on, like places that are right against a road, such as the bank, or newspaper building, etc... All this goes back to space again.
Another thing I am having trouble with is the street layout. The links DoctorDr gave does have one to this guys layout idea, which works but I dont like that you can not tell where one street ends and another begins, no color coding etc... I would love to find a layout where each street is its own one and is crossed or intersects at the connecting streets. This is what I have been working on alot lately and I am so very close to a layout like this that works, but it will be dependent on the structures also.
I would love to hear your thoughts on your project and trade some ideas, if you are interested. Let me know and I can give you my email address and we can chat off-forum about it.
