Karsabi + advanced SLAM

Can he perform a SLAM, do his free action and then get the stress to remove the weapon disabled?

No

The correct sequence would be:

  1. Execute maneuver
  2. "Perform Action" Step - SLAM and receive weapons disabled token (as apart of the SLAM)
  3. Trigger Karsabi's ability and receive stress to remove weapons disable token.
  4. Trigger for Advanced SLAM, but you're unable to resolve because you're stressed.

So basically advanced SLAM is not really the best option for him and linked battery is almost a must?

Well, adv slam isn’t worthless on him, there are times when stressing yourself is a horrible position to be in, so it’d be better to take the action and pray

Another question about jam this time. I use jamming canon on a ship and it does not receive any other token for the turn. Will the jam token remain on it for the following turn(s) until it has a focus/evade/TL to remove?

Yes

I'm not entirely certain that it wouldn't work with Lt. Karsabi. The reference card for SLAM says you choose and execute a maneuver on your dial. SLAM completes, then you are assigned a weapons disabled token. That wording is identical to push the limit. PTL can for example be used with a TAP to focus, push for a target lock and then take a free evade action before the stress from PTL is assigned.

The "then you are assigned a weapons disabled token" being a separate clause from the maneuver part of SLAM makes me believe that advanced SLAM has the opportunity to trigger between them, which would mean Lt. Kar should be able to benefit from it.

The SLAM action is the whole of the card, including the WD token.

If ASLAM said, e.g. 'after you execute a manoeuvre during a SLAM action, you may perform a free action' you could do it between the manoeuvre and the WD token. But ASLAM doesn't trigger until after the SLAM action, which includes the token.

Or to put it another way, what's your basis for assuming the token isn't part of the action, when it's part of the card that defines what the action is?

It uses the same language as PTL and the second action from PTL can still be used to trigger other abilities and effects before receiving the stress token inherent to using PTL.

As noted, you could interrupt the SLAM action with an 'after executing a manoeuvre' trigger.

Just not an 'after performing an action' one, because the action isn't complete at that point.

Just because it includes the words 'then gain a' doesn't mean the action is complete.

But does the "then gain..." clause being separated by a period still include it in the action? SLAM's first sentence reads "To SLAM, choose and execute a maneuver on the ship's dial." It's not added until the end that you then gain a token after SLAM'ing.

I'd say not. But there's probably enough room for wiggle that it needs FAQing.

Hopefully we'll get one today. But I'm not exactly brimming with optimism.

Nope, he actually doesnt want adv slam. Getting the disabled token is part of SLAM and you have to finish that action before you can do another. Once you move onto another, you missed the window to discard the disabled token since its not an "after action that happens to be a SLAM" effect. Its worded "then receives a weapons disabled token" so it gives no indication its an "after action" effect.

His ability will negate any possible ways of sneaking actions through on him since he lacks a tech slot.

Fortunately the Gunboat has a few ways to get mods anyway (LRS, Linked Batteries) and theres always the shuttle toting around fleet/hux/system officer around.

I think he'd be a bit broken otherwise imo.

It's definitely arguable about if you can or can't so ultimately it'll come down to your TO and what they say. I'd recommend you ask them and plan around that ruling.
