And let’s not forget that flying an Endor A-wing, assuming that’s what Shera owns, took considerable skill. I mean, I believe it’s said somewhere that they were prone to spinning out if you weren’t careful. If this was what Poe learned to fly in, I could see him be at least as good as Wedge, if not better.

There's also a matter of Tech. Wedge's X-Wing would have been an older ship that had been in service for some time, held together by whatever pieces the rebellion could stitch together. I know the Resistance doesn't have the full power of the Republic, but they are technologically better off than the Rebellion for sure.

Exactly! Poe's an amazing pilot by default. Though you'd think he was more of an A-Wing guy as a result..! But no, that dude loves him some X-Wings, that's super canon.

Dude likely has posters all over wherever his room is. Got a whole gigabyte of X-Wing images, schematics, models, games, and to top it off, X-Wing aeromorph content.

I never said Poe's obsession was particularly healthy.

There's a difference between "being better than other known characters" and "performing feats that defy the physical limits established in the universe." No one is saying Poe isn't allowed to be as good or even better than pilots like Luke or Wedge... but we are saying he shouldn't be able to make a complete mockery of every other dogfight we've seen on Star Wars film.

In TFA we see Poe kill 10 TIE Fighters... LITERALLY 10... in 12 seconds, while also killing a few stormtroopers on the ground for good measure. This means if Poe was at the Battle of Yavin, he'd have wiped out the entirety of Black Squadron in less than 12 seconds... less than the time it took Luke and Wedge to meet up while Luke's got that one TIE chasing him. That's not just Poe being better than established characters, that's Poe making a mockery of the entire nature of how dog-fighting had been established in the franchise.

I don't want to be a jerk, but is it that hard thinking everything new is a mockery of older stuff?

Like, it's got to be a hard lifestyle.

Wedge always struck me as kind of the rebel version of Boba Fett. We only see him a little bit in the actual films and while he is a good pilot, both of his famous exploits (participating in the destruction of both death stars) basically just involve flying in a straight line. Sure, he survives all of the major space battles of the OT, but that involves as much luck as skill. It was only in the EU where Wedge was elevated to a demi-god uber pilot in much the same way that Boba Fett became the Star Wars equivalent of Batman.

Uh, I loved Rogue One and felt it added wonderfully to the Star Wars mythos, and that's an even newer film than TFA ... but it also lacked any scenes where Blue Leader or Cassian shot down 10 TIE fighters in twelve seconds... could have something to do with it. Hmm...

What is the maximum acceptable rate of TIE Fighter destruction in the space of 12 seconds?

Well clearly nothing you could do in literally any of the old games without a second thought.

Poe just really liked X-Wing Alliance, guys, okay?

All this talk about Wedge makes me think about how great a few Cameos would have been with original actors like Denis Lawson (who played Wedge) in their new positions in the military. Wedge an Captain or Admiral now or something. Or even sitting again in his old X-Wing because the Resistance is short of pilots.

And an old Lando...

It would have grounded the new Trilogy so much better in the existing universe...

They tried to get Denis to reprise his role, but he refused. He's not really a fan of his role in Star Wars.

Also, Denis was actually NOT the voice for his own character in New Hope and Empire. It was dubbed with another actor, David Ankrum, who also voiced Wedge for Rogue One.

Pretty sure we already got that in the trailer when he does a barrel roll and shoots a Mon Cal cruiser to pieces.

You mean the homage to lil Anakin? :D

I knew that they had tried to get him, but I never knew about the dubbing thing. Weird.

I feel like Lando could have replaced Maz Kanata's character in TFA. He would have at least a decent excuse for having Luke's old Lightsaber ("I found it in a deep core gas collector when we were doing salvage runs on Bespin!")

How many were docked to the Death Star when it blew up?

That multiplied by 12.

Let's not forget this guy grew up with one of the Force Trees or something, in his back yard and his mother, Shara, flat out owned an A-Wing.

Poe has every reason to be a very good pilot. He's been flying since his parents would let him, which was probably really early.

All of that goes out the window the second he utters the line "woah, this thing really moves!".

You know the one. :p

Yes, to reply to what the OP posted, I was transfixed twice on the last tournament I played. First, the new guy came with all the cards he had at his disposal and didn't know how to combo them together. Poe Dameron with Proton Torpedoes only and the like... I felt guilty having the Tier 2 competetive list against him. Second on the same day a very experienced guy had very funny list of 4 Quadjumpers (each of the pilots were there). I was quite overconfident and my Poe Dameron payed the price. Then I put my wits back together and won the match.

My mate dropped a Dorsal Turret K-Wing down on the table across from me one night and I asked him why and he couldn't remember putting the list together.

Hey, I would be surprised at how nicely a TIE flies too if I've never flown one.

I actually don't mind that some key familiar faces were missing, since it'd be a little less believable that everyone was still alive and still doing the same very risky jobs they've been doing for 30 years. This would make combat with the Empire/Remnant/First Order even less dramatic, since everyone survived it for three decades.

In that sense, the Star Wars world would get a little more 'real' if we were to find out that Wedge and Lando died decades ago in combat with the Imperial Remnant (maybe Wedge, as Rogue Leader, died in the Battle of Jakku).

Personally, I believe that Lando partied so hard on the forest moon of Endor that he stumbled off one of the Ewok walkways and fell to his death.

No way! When you are drunk enough you just can't die falling from any height.

If I am not mistaken, Denis Lawson recently appeared in a Celebration event saying that we will be back soon. Perhaps we see him in Episode IX?

That, or maybe he and Han bump into each other in the Han Anthology film, seeing as they are both originally Correllian smugglers (assuming Disney hasn't retconned that, we already know they slapped Wedge into the Empire as a defector for some reason).

He's been cast as Donald Glover and is to play a pretty large role in the film as far as I know.

I was referring to Wedge... Lando isn't a Correllian, as far as I know.
