Rian Johnson and the "Spoiler no fly list" -> The missing SKU

By MacchuWA, in X-Wing

“A year ago, maybe even more than that, my producer Ram [Bergman] and I sat down with the folks at Lucasfilm and said, ‘OK, this is what we’re going to reveal here and there, and this stuff we’re never going to reveal until the movie comes out.’ We came up with a ‘no-fly list’ of, under no circumstances is this shown or that shown,” says Johnson.

Realistically, this almost certainly applies to character moments and specific scenes that would give away the plot. But maybe not? If there is a secret ship, we might get to see something out of FFG (or at least figure out quickly what ship it might be) as soon as next week.

Not sure that this is useful information for anyone, but I thought it was kind of cool. :)

they are obviously talking about Sabine's tie defender.

And Sabine's First Order Tie Bomber.

Not to mention Sabine's quadjumper.

Fans will love it. (Not.)

Since the resistance transport (briefly glimpsed in TFA at takodana) has had some appearance in TLJ related merchandise, I suspect it will play a bigger role in the new film, and will get a release. Especially since we just got a resistance specific synergy ability, and that faction is currently only 3 ships large.

Urrgh.

Normally I like the used look and reactivated old rustbuckets (e.g. Arc170). But that thing is really hideous. And really, taking the body of a heavy attack craft and ise it as a cramped troop transport? Wouldn't it be better to throw them away in attacks instead of transforming? This transport logically should exist as maybe 1 or 2 units at max, if at all.

But unfortunately you could be right.

It's even worse.

"The transport was cobbled together by Resistance technicians from parts with different purposes and origins. The ship was controlled from a repurposed B-wing Mark II cockpit module that was locked in place and restructured to allow for a docking hatch. The B-wing's life-support systems and portside deflector shield projectors were relocated to within the adjacent cowling, which reduced cockpit visibility and forced the pilot to use holographic visual displays and a sensor suite. Engine pods were taken from Republic-era Montura-class shuttles, as they were sturdy and reliable. Faster-than-light travel was allowed thanks to two knockoff S/min-12a hyperdrive, a miniaturized model engineered on the base of First Orderdesigns. Passengers traveled inside two modular compartments found aboard freighters and cut-price starliners. These compartments were connected and encased with a shell of surplus hull plating. Cockpit was linked to passenger area thanks to a tunnel.[1]"

The thing is; if there's a "big secret", then is the resistance transport really.....that big a deal? We know it exists and a fair amount of detail on what it and its capabilities are.

What would get something on the 'no fly' list would be something which whose existence would inevitably result in a massive plot spoiler; let's say a T-70 with the PS9 pilot "Ben Solo", for example.

I still say the most likely thing is Benicio Del Toro's character/ship. He's a big name actor, but he's not been in ANY trailers, and he's been in like, 2 publicity stills.

I'm betting he's some analogue of Lando, we know there's a casino planet involved. And that the missing SKU is his ship, hopefully, a Huge size.

You assume FFG has inside info when developing their ships.

Don't.

Sabine is Snoke. Confirmed.

I'm still waiting for Sabines "Home One" and Sabine's "Executor."

So it's basically a mass produced Ugly?

It's just me or "Mass produced Ugly" sounds like an oxymoron?

I almost liked this post until I saw the word huge. Epic is the worst marketing and the worst gameplay in X-wing.

I agree with everything else you said.

Wait what???

i could see the marketing, because ffg puts all its support into tournament style xwing and not into any other format. Worst gameplay? Have you tried it?

Or if you did try it, did you incorporate the house rules that make it fun instead of just really big metawing? One house rule is you must field an epic ship in your squad not just small/large base. Some house rule the limit on non uniques (no more than 4 of any specific card/pilot) as well to present the spam lists.

Do yourself a favor, and try epic again with a buddy. Use those house rules to build your squads. Get back to me.

PS - for now, don’t take Maul on an epic. We aren’t sure if he will get limited or not, but he can kind of really add hurt if he’s in the cr90

I agree that this is the most likely answer. But I disagree about his ship being a huge ship. Hopefully it is a large ship, not a huge ship.

I tried it. Epic is a cumbersome, poorly executed patch. Playing with the huge ships is like my toddler stomping around in my boots that come up to his hips. I play Armada to get my capitol ship plastic crack fix. Armada is everything Epic is trying to be without falling flat on its top-heavy face.

Huge ships or not, playing X-wing with more than 100 points is tedious. I find X-wing more fun with lower point values that force you to make different choices in squad building. Lower points also have a tendency to speed up gameplay. I homebrew alternate formats that accomodate more players and break free from the oppressive culture of metawing.

You joke, but I would put up with quite a bit to have Rebel Sabine's ability on a Defender.

It is all about DJ. Missing SKU will be revealed on the 15th or 18th is my guess.

Disney isn't even letting DJ's actor join in the group interview panels.

Captured defender will be best defender.

Or perhaps the actor has a very small role, and not a major cast member. Maybe he has other obligations or filming.

Guys let's be frank about that Resistance Transport. They have like. Two.

Yeah the Battlefront game and a couple other media depicts a few more..? But that's not the case. This thing is REALLY, REALLY few in number, I doubt The Resistance has any more than ten.

Seeing as, y'know. They're entirely based out of some hills on Da'qar and by TLJ they're getting some New Republic assistance.

Like, as if The Raddus is a Resistance Vessel. Please.

DJ's ship is almost certainly on this list. What would you think if they revealed that DJ's is flying around in a Firespray that looks an AWFUL lot like the Slave 1, or perhaps A TIE Advanced X1 that looks identical to Vader's.... Sometimes equipment can have a huge "Wow" factor.

I've seen leaks and thankfully it is an original design. Although it looks unarmed.

Luke's X-Wing

They can put Sabine in as many ships as they want as long as they keep giving her the pre-maneuver reposition ability. She's a lot of fun to fly. Now if only Rebels would reveal that she's actually a clone so I can fly Sabine's Masterpiece with Sabine piloting and also crew Sabine.

Ummmm...it is, though? (Some spoilers there, I guess - leaked shot from one of the TLJ books coming out)

Eh...I mean, yeah, I prefer Armada - but I prefer Armada to X-Wing, generally. It just feels a lot more challenging, more rewarding to out-plan your enemy, and MUCH less random. 'Epic' X-Wing, though, really is pretty good...when playing the campaigns. Even the so-so campaigns that come with the 'Epic' ships are still really enjoyable.

I can't imagine playing 'Epic'-scale like a deathmatch, just with higher points. X-Wing's weakness has always been its "every battle is a deathmatch, every time" thing, and certainly 'Epic' scaled ships would only make that worse.

The story-based campaigns, though...really very enjoyable! (I wish FFG did a lot more like that)
