Lightsaber Gun???

By Johan Marek Phoenix Knight, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

In the latest issue of the Darth Vader comic series, Vader hunts Jocasta Nu in the remains of the Jedi Temple. She runs off to some secret part of the temple where she finds a strange contraption and sticks her lightsaber inside of it. The contraption is then revealed to be some sort of blaster, which she shoots at Vader. He tries to block it, but was sent flying from the force of it, and the blast left a huge gaping hole in the thick walls of the temple. So my question is, how would someone stat this... lightsaber gun? Because I'm fairly certain we have seen people reflect fire from starships in Rebels, and Vader is infinitely more powerful and skilled than Ezra and Kanan, but Vader couldn't reflect this thing. It seems like this thing is a one-of-a-kind item, so acquiring something like it is a game is likely impossible, but still, it would be awesome.

Yeah I noticed it had the Jedi order logo on it too.

Remember how the system works. Something like that could be represented with stats similar to a disruptor. Even with several ranks of reflect and armored robes you'd have trouble completely negating all damage. Add in a critical injury and it's effects and you'd have something like what you described occuring in game.

It should definitely have breach.

Or multiple ranks in pierce, depending on it's other numbers and how you want it to interact with vehicles.

Lightsabers all have Breach, and this was a lightsaber, just amped WAY up. It cut through the wall like it was nothing, and I’m not talking about drywall here. This was a several feet wide, probably a dozen feet deep hole through the strongest and most secure section of the Jedi Temple’s infrastructure. I’d give it Breach 1 at the minimum, though even Breach 2 or 3 could be appropriate for this thing.

Not disagreeing, just saying that a gm needs to consider the items potential issues in a campaign. Something with breach 3 and crit 2 can take out an AT-ST if the player knows his stuff. Not a problem unless you don't want that to happen.

It’s an artifact that requires a lightsaber to power it. It’s like 15(R), probably needs alchemy to construct one.

Also Vader will either destroy it next comic or the Emperor will keep it his library as a trophy for the rest of the Empire.

Don’t forget the T-7 Ion Disruptor is already in game (Age of Rebellion-Forged in Battle pages: 42 & 44) and in Rebels season 1. It has Breach 2, Blast 6, Vicious 6 in a 9 (R) 8000 credit production model rifle about the same size as this gun. It can already take out AT-DP’s or Players.

Sounds like inaccurate 5 breach 2 blast 20 damage 20 crit 4 (maybe 5) encumberance 5 cumbersome 4 1hp(for the lightsaber/crystal power pack). Oh and sunder but will burn out lightsaber and Or crystal on 1 threat... Just don't let the pc know till it's too late.

Yeah I'll pass on that one thank you very much.

Maybe if it was a much lower power with less chance of killing my lightsaber then MAYBE... it could be a good way to hide the hilt if it was more like a regular blaster rifle that used the crystal to generate the power for the shot.

Addition

It could also have knockdown and Or concussive.

How about this:

Master Guflar's Lightsaber rifle (a Jedi oddity) (Ranged (Heavy); Damage 16; Critical 1; Range [Short]; Breach 3, Burn 1, Vicious 6, Cumbersome 3, Slowfiring 1, Knockdown)

On life forms all critical injury rolls result in "crippled" or worse.

Requires a lightsaber to power it.

15 (R) not for sale or 11,000,000 credits and contraband in the Empire.

This seems like more of a plot device than a weapon IMO. Giving players access to something like this usually ends up as a war of escalation in my experience. If I were to use anything like this, I'd probably just use the stats for the T-7 and give it knockdown.

I was thinking about the T-7 specifically. That's actually what I was thinking you could use as the baseline numbers.

It's a beast, but the rarity 9R is essentially FFGs way of saying "this thing is amazing, don't just hand it to the players without a thought." It's hard to get, harder when you think AoRs format, and lore-wise it's mere possession is a major criminal offense. Awarding it to a player should be a big deal, and not something the gm should take lightly as it will be a defining factor in future encounter and adventure design.

I haven't seen enough of this rifle but it looks more SDF-1 than T-7 in it's effects. I wouldn't give it blast for instance. The objects it hits in the room don't look so armored either.

This scene from the comic sounds ridiculous.

Not really considering that they have lasers that destroy planets.

Star Wars is full of ridiculous things when held under the microscope. Some things are much more ridiculous than others, however.

It’s based on Flash Gordon, of course it’s ridiculous.

Not much different from a hand held phaser on the ?highest? setting from star trek tng ?
