2017-18 Regionals Lists

By ThatJakeGuy, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Regionals season is upon us again! With that, many of us players in the Imperial Assault community will be voraciously searching the internet for what lists people are playing, and how well those people are doing. I hope to make that a lot simpler by collecting them all into one place.

If you have participated in a Regionals this season, please help us out by telling us about it! I’d love to see a thread of the following information:

Where you played

Event date

List you played (bonus points for including your command cards)

How you placed

Your general thoughts on how the list played and what you thought of the field you played against

Hopefully, with this thread we can establish a clearinghouse of information and have a place for discussion of the trends of the Regionals season!

This was in Denver at The Wizard's Chest on December 2nd.

There were 15 players total I'm pretty sure.

I went 3/1 in Swiss and made top 8. Lost my match in top 8 to the list I had beaten the round before.

I'm going to be putting together a video report of the tournament so stay tuned for that.

List concept: I wanted to see what Rogue Smuggler could do, and figured I should actually use my rangers for once since I modded the one into a twi-lek. :P

Smuggler holds terminals, opens doors, or goes to grab objectives. everyone else essentially huddles around threepio and picks people off or scoots towards objectives en masse.

Went 3-1, made top 8. I've been working on various iterations of this list for about a year. I recorded a summary of how it went for our Zion's Finest Podcast: https://zionsfinestia.podbean.com/e/episode-002-bringing-zion-to-denver/

I was part of a group of 5 from the Utah community that make the trip to play at The Wizard's Chest in Denver. We'll be doing some more in-depth coverage and battle reports on our experience there on our new IA podcast Zion's Finest . Went 4-0 in the Swiss (sort of), and made it to the top table before losing in the finals to John Grasser running a Vader list. Grasser and I actually matched up in round 4 of the Swiss, but since we both were 3-0 and guaranteed a spot in the top cut, he conceded rather than play and reveal his command cards, which definitely worked out to his advantage during our matchup in the finals.

13 players at the event. Rebels were by the most popular faction at the event (with Ahsoka being run in almost every Rebel list), and Scum and Empire receiving roughly equal play to each other. Top 8 cut were 4 Rebel lists, 3 Scum, 1 Empire, with the Imperial list winning the event overall.

This definitely wasn't a super meta tournament - there were a fair number of newer players, and no one was running Ugnaughts at all.

My list was solid and had a decent amount of flexibility to play for either objectives or kills, and I had several matches that were incredibly close. Alliance Smuggler carried me in several matches where the points were close and I was behind on the board, and was gunned down early with minimal impact in one or two other rounds. I definitely didn't prep as well as I should have and made a ton of misplays - I think I remembered to hide a Ranger after removing a figure 1 time the whole day - and I was carried a bit by some fortunate dice results (during my first Top 8 match Ahsoka dodged 3 attacks from IG-88 in a row, and this during the end of the match when we were both running low on figures)

Grasser was pretty protective of his list so out of respect for him I won't divulge much more than it ran Vader. Again, I hadn't practiced against Vader much at all, but he managed to take me apart without much difficulty.

I think that going forward Vader is definitely going to be the list to beat. Ugnaughts previously held the crown, but optimized Vader lists have an incredibly one-sided matchup against them on any map.

I've been thinking about it quite a bit and there's definitely a lot of testing to be done, but I've struggled to come up with something that even looks like it could deal with Vader on paper, much less in practice. The Junk Droid is going to have to high roll to even deal 1 damage to Vader. Scum Hunters are so reliant on gaining a board advantage through their alpha strike that sinking the resources in to remove Vader is a losing proposition. So far I think Kenny's Ahsoka MHD Smuggler Box list above has the best chance of anything I've seen.

Would you mind to change your posts or to add a brief description of the concept behind the list? I'm interested into how you use the list to get the best out of it. It's likely easy to understand without an explaination for an experienced player but I'm a beginner and probably I won't get it even playing them multiple times :) Many thanks.

Kenny's podcast episodes 0 and 1 explain his list pretty well. I know @RogueLieutenant 's video will have some good analysis :)

Will it though? :P I feel like I'm not nearly as competitively minded as people might think I am.

If only I'd known Denver was a hot=spot, I would have driven the 8 hours just to play you guys. As it is, I feel I'll miss all the regionals

What were the top lists though?

I'm very intrigued by this post. I tried to listen to the podcast, but just haven't been able to yet. I'm hoping to listen to it later tonight or tomorrow.

I take it by running a box, you have to heavily avoid the splash damage of say Drokkatta? Did you find that to be an issue?

I ran into one Drokkatta, and I used Ahsoka to remove him in two attacks. Figures like Drokkatta and Palp, who can do splash damage to the box, tend to be higher up on my list of priority targets.

That's a cool combo you use Jyn for. I've usually seen wild Attack with Weequays (tough luck/heighten reflex/ or just reroll that dodge. I would love to see your Ahsoka in action. I've had decent success with her overall, but I have found her to struggle against ATDP/emperor lists that just take away her pierce and then leave her out in the open on Nal Hutta. Her command card is awesome though.

We're going to make Omaha a big event if that's within driving distance for you. I'll be posting details when I have them.

Congrats. Also:

Awesome, fun, innovative list

Great paint jobs, especially the Twi'lek Ranger!

Lando?!! You gotta be kidding me? LOVE IT! This just confirms the awesomeness of this game.

With MHD, Cheat To Win, Miracle Worker, and On The Lam, Lando is so incredibly tough to kill. And if you can keep the focus engine going, he is going to hit hard well into the end-game. HE IS AWESOME!

Yeah in the first game I lost, I had it IN THE BAG until lando pulled out some crazy crap and dunked a box in Line of Fire after surviving two attacks from a focused Han thanks to Cheat to Win and On the Lam.

Bumping to get lists from the Maryland Regionals over the weekend! @pheaver , @brettpkelly , and I'm sure many more excellent players made appearances and we'd love to hear about them.

Also, does anyone have a full list of the regional winner that used Saska?

I watched the stream after some late night diaper duty. I'm missing a few points, but from what I recall, it was Han/RS, Saska, eWeequay, Gideon, 3PO, Hera. That leaves 8 points. I feel like Jyn was probably in there, but can't say for sure.

@beefcake4000 started the thread with the stream, and may be able to fill in the blanks.

I played in the Orléans France Regional yesterday, which had around 20-25 people.

My list: 2x Elite Weequay, Onar, Vinto, Hera, Elite Jawa, Gideon, C3PO, Temporary Alliance, Black Market, Devious Scheme.

I ended up getting 2nd place. The list did fairly well and I know what my biggest mistakes were in the final. I chose to bring Scum Hunters because I was expecting a lot of high power hero figures, notably Han Solo, and I wanted reliable high single target damage to take them out quickly. I also wanted 8 activations to give my opponents hard choices if they wanted to move their Han's out to get the free end-of-round attack. My reasoning seemed justified, as I played against lists with IG, Han, Chewie, and AT-DPs. The meta was very diverse, with the top 4 consisting of 1 imperial list (a dual AT-DP Palpatine list that had smashed me in the swiss rounds), 2 rebel lists, and my scum list.

The winning list was a 9 activation rebel list with Elite Rangers, Ko-tun, Jarrod, Hera, Gideon, R2-D2, C3PO, and 2x Regular Alliance Smugglers.

Unfortunately this regional apparently did not have the kit with the dice; if I had known I probably wouldn't have used my bye.

Not a regional but still think it fits in here ;)

I thought about playing this list at the Dutch Nationals yesterday, too.

I actually changed Hera and the Jawa to Greedo and an Ugnaught to have a little bit more options to control objectives. I think Greedo is just amazing on the current maps and missions.

We were 13 players and after 4 rounds and a top-8-cut I won the tournament playing against Vader-Palpatine (x2), Han-Ranger-Drokatta/Ahsoka(x2), IG-Hunter (x2) and a Emperor-Hunter list.

Top 4 were IG-Hunter, Vader-Palpatine, Han-Ranger-Drokatta and my hunters.
