Maybe this question was answered but I didn't find it, sorry if some one asked before. Can I use my defense tokens in a counterattack? I think yes, but I 'm not sure.

counter attack is an attack and follow all the rules (steps) of an attack which include spending defense tokens

Indeed!

All things that affect "attacks" affect "counterattacks" unless explicitly excluded (like Counter itself!)

This includes Howlrunner, Toryn Farr, and all of those other kinky things people do with Squadrons these days.
