Adventure Game

By David Spangler, in Dark Heresy

With the announcement today of Deathwatch RPG--which, I admit, sounds awesome in its story potentials--I'm back to wishing there could be a board game that would take the Dark Heresy/Inquisitor material and put it into an adventure game. An adventure board game dealing with heroes struggling against the dark forces of the Warp, in the spirit of Middle Earth Quest but in space and on alien planets and abandoned (or not) alien spaceships, and so on, would be very cool and a lot of fun to play.

I might pick up such a product for the props and possibly mineatures if they are cool enough, but this is pretty much a yawner for me. Talisman is cool if you have nothing better to do, but if I have enough people sitting around to play a board game then chances are we are going to pop in some anime or start playing a RPG of some sort.

Heck, have you checked out Warhammer 40,000? It lacks the ready-made board and pieces, but has all the elements you are looking for, not to mention alot more replay value. GW has recently re-issued an update of Space Hulk with some new art and models. This might be exactly what you are after.

Kinda doubt we are going to see "Hero Quest in Spaaaaace!" anytime soon, if ever. Especially with Mutant Chronicles failing miserably.... AGAIN.

Good point about Mutant Chronicles, but I wasn't thinking of a minitaures game, rather something more like Middle Earth Quest or WoW: the Adventure Game or even, though not as complex, as Android. Actually, Arkham Horror might be an even better model for what I have in mind for putting the Inquisitors and Dark Heresy kind of universe into a board game format for those who have an itch that miniatures don't scratch.

There are currently no Inquisition themed boardgames that I am aware of. FFG has a Horus Heresy boardgame and GW recently came out with a new boardgame called Planetary Empires. Pretty much those plus Space Hulk as far as I am aware of.

(No, I don't count the Talisman space expansion as a 40K boardgame...)
