Card Abilities

By Titanium Mage, in L5R LCG: Rules Discussion

Hello,

I was wondering, how often can one trigger a card’s ability? I know those that require bowing cannot be used again but what about cards with abilities that do not require bowing. For example, Radiant Orator allows me to send characters home with lower glory. How many times can I do this? Another example is Shiba Yojimbo which allows me to cancel effects targeting my Shugenjas as an interrupt, how many times can I do this?

Thanks for the help.

All abilities may be used once per round unless the card states otherwise.

Ok, now a round is the completion of the phases from 1 to 5 yes?

Yes

Thank You.

Another question,

How can I tell if an ability can be triggered even when a character is bowed? Also, can abilities be triggered when a character is home?

All abilities can be triggered when a character is bowed. The only thing that can stop that is if part of the cost (the text on an ability before the dash) causes the character to bow. An example of this is the Kitsu Spiritcaller. His ability is Action: During a conflict, bow this character. Choose a character in one of your discard piles – put that character into play in the conflict. If that character is still in play at the end of the conflict, return it to the bottom of its deck.

His ability requires him to bow as a cost and thus cannot be used while bowed.

Abilities can also be triggered when a character is at home as long as the ability itself does not require the character be to participating in the conflict.

A better way to look at cards is to think along the lines of "There is no restriction to use an ability unless it is listed on the card". There are no rulebook limits besides being in play and once per turn/round, unlike in the previous incarnation.

Thank You, These clarification help a great deal.
