App medpacs?

By aRandomBoardGamingDude, in Imperial Assault Campaign

Hey so what's the deal with these how many do you get each mission it seems random sometimes you have the same number you had at the end of the last mission, sometimes it's just like *screw you* lose HALF the medpacs you hoarded

the app is sooooo dang hard. I've had all four heroes wounded in the tutorial every. single. time. I've played with all the heroes except Davith, and not every combination of Hero, haven't won a single mission and can't seem to.

I might just ignore that resting rule because I can't seemingly hoard medpacs and honestly this thing is just soooooooo dang hard. I don't even want to think about the hard setting.

also is there any possible way Diala can get Shu-Yen's in the campaign?

I have played through the app 1 and a half times on Hard Mode and still not lost a mission, although it's been close a few times. I'm actually toying with ways to make the app harder. Maybe I got lucky though because I got Portable Medkit and Personal Shields as bonus items in my first playthrough on Hard Mode.

To answer your question directly, your medkits reset at the start of each mission, usually giving you only 1 although I think I remember one of the later missions starting with 2, maybe the finale. That's how it works in Hard Mode, I haven't tested it in Normal yet. If you are hurting for medkits, start digging through crates when you get a pause in the action, almost every crate has med kit in it except for the one crate that has double supply cards. You will also hopefully draw some medical cards that way.

As for using Diala's lightsaber, it's not possible to get it in the app, but you know there's nothing stopping you from just using it on the table? That's one of the bonuses of the app being a board game supplement and not a straight video game, you get to tell the app how you want to the play the game instead of the other way around. I won't tell the app you're using it if you don't ;). If that feels too much like cheating, you can just do what a lot of people were already doing in Mini campaigns and give up one of her 3xp cards for the Lightsaber.

I haven't been having nearly the problems you are. I've played the tutorial about 4 times now with different groups just to play around and haven't had any wounded heroes. We did get close in one case where Diala ended up with 10 damage on her, but that was the closest to actually having a wounded character in the tutorial.

Only partially through one mission after the tutorial and we're pretty far in with only one wounded hero. An enemy spawned out of nowhere and managed to get a double attack with relentless. The relentless ended up getting her due to sitting on 4 strain because we thought we were safe.

Other than that, it's been a lot of fun.....tough....but not nearly as hard as a dedicated Imperial Player in normal campaign. I am excited to try this in hard.

What is happening in your games that is causing heroes to drop so fast?

So are the Hero rewards unavailable entirely?

Or is it possible there will be encounters that will give it to them?

Right now there are no Encounters in the game that grant hero specific rewards unfortunately, although there are methods to gain some of the rewards from the grey side missions interestingly. If you think about it, doing so would require 19 extra Encounters to be programmed into the game, so it makes sense why they chose not to make it a priority when players can just use the item if they want to.

you absolutely got lucky. I'd bet ALL of your dice rolls added up together throughout all five missions would have been rolling like 80% of their maximum amounts. OR the mathematical graphing of your rolls would show a disproportionate number of the below average rolls made were the values of the app's figure's attacks.

I haven't tried doing the app with just averaged out rolls, but theoretically that should help if the root of my problem is how bad I am at rolling dice.

There just isn't enough medpacs even with all the ones you get from the crates in a mission. One group of reg stormtroopers can put 12 damage on somebody in one turn if they are lucky....more in the app cause they're always getting an extra green die on the first one's attack or a free surge....Literally my only hope would be to hoard like 14 medpacs to use on the finale... Which should totally be a valid option cause if I'm hoarding medpacs, I'm prolly losing the missions in between when I want to use them. Like reverse saving agenda cards for the finale. That's a valid and legal strategy.

Also literally any house rule irks me a lot unless it's a 100% necessary (like a fifth player who is a whiny little kid who will throw a temper tantrum if you don't let him play and nobody wants to give up their place or be the IP or something like that)

Maybe look at the Hero activation strategy thread. ;)

Heroes start each round, so letting a 3-figure group to activate with their full power is a decision you have made.

Unless they interrupt to activate, which happened to me without a choice in the matter and Fenn took 10 damage.

(that might have been the tutorial only though)

For Extra Medpacs you can also edit the savegame file (its a text file)

........\Imperial Assault_Data\SavedGames\0\SavedGameA

search for {"Name":"MedpackCount","Value":2}

and edit the value to whatever you like

I played through the entire campaign with Diala, Fenn, Saska, and Gideon and had heroes wounded a couple of times and one hero withdrawn once. Won every mission and never used all the medkits available in any mission. Felt like the app was fairly generous with medkits in crates, plus they gave a few free items each mission, some that helped with healing.

If you're going to do this, you might as well just track medpacs manually (app medpacs + house rule bonus medpacs - used medpacs). Editing the save file seems silly since you can change whatever mechanics you want and since the game is actually played with the board game components.

But you won't get to experience the cool sound effect that way... :P

Its more fun if the game track this - and btw i never use this. I play only around to see what is editable or not.

So for example you can play hardcore mode if a hero dies, you can eliminate him from the game and add another hero starting with 0 xp :) - thats fun.

"HeroIds":[1,2,3,4] > "HeroIds":[1,2,3,18] > change the hero id (18 for 4) with a value from 1-19 (think 19 heroesare in the app at the moment)
"HeroXP":[2,2,2,2] -> "HeroXP":[2,2,2,0] > reset the XP for heroid 18

,"SkillsInfo":[
{"EquippedSkills":[0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0],"RewardSkills":[0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0],"HasReset":true},
{"EquippedSkills":[0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0],"RewardSkills":[0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0],"HasReset":true},
{"EquippedSkills":[0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0],"RewardSkills":[0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0],"HasReset":true},
{"EquippedSkills":[0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0],"RewardSkills":[0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0],"HasReset":true}],

and alle the skills (but this can be done in the game)

We breezed through the tutorial last night without a single wounded hero. There were four of us, we took the three heroes from the Hoth box plus Biv B.

Now go start a new file and play that first mission without the tutorial. It's a completely different experience with a different map and way more enemies.

I will say that I always have to use all of my medkits in every mission, but I also make sure to open every box because I know that I will find bonus medkits and also have the possible of drawing medical supply cards, which I found myself taking every time over stuff like Grenades and damage boosters.

But the OP said he'd all four heroes wounded in the tutorial single time, so I addressed the tutorial.

I wasn't refuting your points, I was giving advice so you don't miss out on the "true" introductory mission, but you'll get to find out on your second play through if you don't want to restart.

Oh, that. Yeah will we be restarting cause one of the regular gamers couldn't make it last week. So we'll start a new "real" campaign with a 5th player.
