9 Nus and a heavy Stele.

You can add LRS if you want. Or Mangler.

Shuttup, it's Epic. I can do what I want.

But the Tie/D title doesn't work with a Mangler Cannon. :(

Yeah, that was back before DLC, when you'd purchase a complete game all at once, rather than buying only a portion of a game and then buying more portions later for the same price.

Well, actually, just as a sort of FYI, the original game only came with Battles 1-7 (culminating in you saving the Emperor from a coup attempt while piloting a TIE Defender). Two more Expansion packs were later created (additional 'downloadable' content didn't exist back then, obviously). The original game came out in '93 or '94, and had far inferior graphics to what would come later. In 1995, an upgraded collectors version would come out that bundled them all together with vastly improved graphics, including a new form of rendering that allowed 3D polygons to feature a realistic style of gradient illumination effects (at least, realistic at the time). However, it should be stated that the original expansion packs were very cheap, and the base game still comprised something like 70 missions. Anyway, a new version would be released again in 1998, but while the graphics were again vastly improved over the 95 version, the rather dubious choice was made to swap out the old midi music with music from the movies. Personally, I'll take the downgraded visuals in order to retain that beautiful synth goodness, especially because the newer version doesn't feature dynamic music events (such as the way the background music changes when an enemy capital ship exits hyperspace). The tight flight control and gameplay make up for the lack of visual pizzazz, at least in my opinion.

More like, "Delta One, go disable the shuttles, and try to end the mission before Assault Gunboat squadron Rho decides to destroy all your bonus objectives!"

So true.... I remember wanting to shoot down my own guys at times.

At the very least they were games that people would talk about for 30 years, and still consider them the pinnacle of Star Wars space dogfight.

In comparison, I wonder for how long will we talk about EA BF 2, and if it will be about a different kind of merit earned (the game that triggered governments to regulate covert gambling in videogames?)

To be fair, people are talking about the dogfighting in BF2 , and how it's probably one of the most enjoyable parts of the game (well done Criterion). It's also getting them talking about revisiting the more traditional, in-depth space sims like the X-Wing series in the future, because dogfighting is cool goddammit.

I’ll shut up, but who’s buying all those Gunboats?

Yeah you get sort of a downgrade in the last few missions. It's really hard to go from Missile Boat to Gunboat all of a sudden... And from Defender to Advance.

Call me old school, but I always prefered the Avenger over the Defender.

Avenger was alright but I really liked the defender and how it was ion equipped... when there’s a run of objectives and you need to stop them from escaping, it’s much faster to disable than destroy and you can zip on to the next one before any escape.... then go back and shoot at the static targets who can’t go anywhere.

of course, ions work differently in our tabletop game so the strategy isn’t as valid.

Fortunately for all concerned. I remember playing X-Wing: Alliance and leaving around two dozen immobilised TIE Fighters just floating around helplessly in space...

Oh I agree for gameplay it’s way better for us. I just meant that the same tactic obviously doesn’t work so the defender > avenger model wouldn’t necessarily hold in xwing minis.

I suppose for now we can squint at the tie silencer and pretend its an avenger and we've got pretty much the full imperial roster.

Rebellions still missing the R-41 though.

And the T-Wing.

Nah, that’s more for scum. I can’t recall a time the rebels had an r41 but I recall plenty of time pirates did.

That T-Wing is pretty sweet looking.
