Waning Hostilities - Neutral Event Card

By ElSuave, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

I feel like I could play this in Crabicorn. Captive for double MIL conflicts, this for the other turns when my garbage political state isn't worth the offense and throw them in front of the single return attack.

Going to require some playing for sure.

Plus with intimidating Hida out its a guaranteed honor loss every time you play it.

I think not. Intimidating Hida states that you lose an honor if you pass on a conflict, while Waning Hostilities states each player only gets 1 Opportunity to declare a conflict. This means they'll never pass on a 2nd conflict because they don't have the opportunity, as step 3.2 boots them forward to 3.4. The never pass.

@shosukohas the right of this. Our thorough analysis of this card in the rules forum has really upped my knowledge of the Conflict Resolution sub-Phase, and he is absolutely right, there is no pass opportunity since all opportunities will be used up as per the Action Window before 3.2 after they return from each player declaring their first conflict and then skip to 3.4.

As a follow up question...Do players still get an action window at the end of the conflict resolution sub-phase after all conflicts have been declared/passed but before you skip to 3.4 Determine Imperial Favor? Not sure why you would use this, just wondering the timing?

It’s neat to read the amount of conversation that has been had concerning this card. Seems to me that cards similar to this one are going to further shape this game in a multitude of interesting ways.

Yes. That particular action window has a note that says after the action window if there's no additional conflict opportunities, then move to 3.4. That window has its uses. For example, I've played Know the World then to return a ring to the unclaimed pool so Tsukune can trigger it. Not that you have to play KtW then, but it makes it harder for your opponent to steal that ring to prevent you from hitting it again with Tsukune. And sometimes it gives you fate, if the unclaimed ring had any on it.

Come to think of it, that's a good time to use Prodigy of the Wave's ability to ready itself just before the Imperial Favor is contested. If there's other readying abilities that can be played then, it'd be a good time to use them if you're going for the favor.

I agree.

I think this card is an example of a very well-designed card...even if it opens up a few questions. Extreme game play potential but not necessary to be auto-include.

Just wish we could get some more of these gems...instead we get HAUGHTY MAGISTRATE...

See that's what happens when I go by memory instead of actually reading the cards. Could have sworn he was worded something along the lines if you fail to make a contact but yes it is declare so yeah not as good as I hoped. That's okay its one more reason to keep me from building that Crab dishonor deck that I've been toying with in my head.
