Isawa Kaede - ring effect order?

By Akodo Tetsuo, in L5R LCG: Rules Discussion

" Immune to opponents' ring effects.
While this character is attacking, the contested ring gains the void element. If this character wins the conflict as an attacker, instead of choosing an element to resolve, resolve each of that ring's effects"

Q: Is there a certain order for the ring effects or can the attacking Phoenix player choose the order in which they apply.

The reason why I ask is that in a game last night, i had one remaining unbowed character with fate on it. My opponent used the void ring to remove the fate and then bow my character with the water ring. What makes me unsure is that Jigoku auto resolved them as fire first, then void but when my opponent told me that it was his choice, I manually bowed my character...allowing him to take my stronghold that turn with...a single keeper initiate...oh the shame!

Normally, when simultaneous effects happens, the first player get to decide which effect resolves first.

I’d say that when a ring has multiple elements, resolution of those elements are simultaneous effects.

See ruling on fiveringsdb . The first player chooses the order.

Thanks for that, I should really use fiveringsdb more! I think I was the first player and has to pass on my second conflict because my character had been bowed, but the bowing should not have happened according to that developer ruling. Considering I was confident that I would take his stronghold that turn (before that turn of events), I was robbed, robbed I tells ya!

It’s not cheating if you win before anyone notice you’re cheating.

Also, Lion are crybabies, always babbling about being robbed, and next thing you know they’re invading your lands.

So I'm clear, Kaede allows you to resolve Void and whatever ring you actually won?

For example, I initiate an air conflict with Kaede and win. Do I get both effects of Air and Void?

Yes. Her ability is 2 effects. The first effect is that the contested ring gains the void element, meaning it has the void ring ability in addition to its normal ability. Then she gives you the second effect which allows you to resolve ALL effects of the contested ring. This means you can get a water + void effect from her attacking for the water ring. Great stuff.

You can contrast her ability to Seeker of Knowledge who adds the Ring of Air to the contested ring, but does not allow you to resolve both abilities. (although you can combo Kaede and SoK together to resolve all 3, the void + air + the normal ring effect)

Has anyone found out what happens if you attack with Kaede, declare Air, and then add a Seeker of Knowledge to that fight? Double Air activation?

A ring either has an element or not. So single activation.

Same as attacking with Kaede and Ring of Void:

Isawa Kaede does not let you resolve Void twice - a ring either has a certain element, or it doesn't .
