Large Ship Scenario: Ready to play. Thrawn vs. Ackbar

By Englishpete, in Star Wars: Armada

Admiral Ackbar stood on the Bridge of his Command Cruiser and watched the jump countdown. In just a few moments he would know whether his gamble to destroy 2 of the Empires remaining early warning stations would pay off.
The Rebellion was still mopping up after Endor and if they wanted the Core Worlds, these stations had to fall. The decoy fleet had attacked 2 hours earlier and by all accounts had drawn off most of the defenders at his target location.
The claxons sounded and his heavily armed and armored MC80's jumped.
The stars blurred back into reality and there were the two station targets.......
and two Star destroyers.....
This is a scenario I thought up to allow some large base ships to slug it out. The fleets are provided, but you can use your own as long as you have 2 large base ships per side.
Place obstacles as normal, excluding the station. Then, the first player places 2 stations in the play area. Each station must be placed beyond distance 1 of all obstacles and beyond distance 3 of both player edges. Both stations are unarmed stations; place both Unarmed Station cards near the first player's ship cards.
Neither player's ships and squadrons can resolve an unarmed station effect to discard damage cards or recover hull points when they overlap it.
The first player gains 1 victory token for each unarmed station that is not destroyed. The second player gains 1 victory token for each unarmed station that is destroyed. (40 points per station)
The Empire has the initiative, Ackbar's decoy wasn't quite as good as he'd hoped. Thrawn has been busy studying the Mon Cal...

The objectives are normally there to balance out the second players disadvantage. Now you give most of the objective advantage of station assault to the first player as well. I fear Ackbar will suffer badly...

It's a fun game, it isn't really supposed to be balanced as such. Have each player play both sides. :-)

Two long range Ackbar MC80's vs two close range ISD's. Really this one comes 100% down to high speed maneuvering and deployment. If the ISD's get in close range, they are going to hurt. But if the MC80's can dodge arcs and kite there won't really be anything the ISD's can do about it.

Also, putting DCO's on both MC80's and then putting a Kuat with APT's against it.... just mean.

:-) Sometimes you have to hope you can shut these things down :-)
