New Custom Hero: Dimm

Dimm v1.0

Would giving him 5 movement be over the top? He could be a great runner, except that his ability, obviously, is conditional upon him not running.

And I'm going to add a clarification that him being webbed cancels his Shadowcloak ability, as he would be unable to duck and weave through combat using shadows, etc.

Latest version:

Dimm v1.1

Of course, I added the webbed and grappled exclusions to Dimm's ability, but I'm wondering if his wounds shouldn't be reduced to 8 since he has 5 fatigue and 5 move? Would this seem to be a better balance?

i think its a great make on a character with shadowcloak

good job

Thanks! I am trying to get some playtesting in with my custom characters and I'll report back with the results. In the meantime, if you, or anyone!, plays using them let us know how it goes.

By the way, I've dropped Dimm's movement to 4 and kept the fatigue at 5. Here's the latest image:

Dimm v1.2

I got in about 3.5 hours of playtesting with Dimm last night, but never got to see his hero ability used. The few creatures that had ranged/magic attacks never got close enough to attack Dimm. He did take some good damage, and died, from Blood Apes and Hell Hounds. The Hell Hounds had gotten the jump on him *after* he had moved, so he had no Shadowcloak that turn. Nephew had played the Ambush card, which allowed him to really stomp me two turns in a row.

He started with chainmail, an axe, and a sling. Skills were Rapid Fire (which saw a lot of use due to his 5 fatigue, much to the chagrin of my nephew who was OLing), Shadowsoul (largely unused), and Enduring. We didn't go through the entire dungeon as it was getting quite late and my nephew needed to go home, but Dimm ended up with Backbiter, the Archer's Charm, and the Gauntlets of Power (?, 2 surges to regain 1 fatigue). He had the Mace of Aver in his backpack and had used it effectively a few times, even with only one die in Melee.

The party consisted of 3 heroes, all customs that I will post here as well. We used feats in this game, which really helped me keep death away for a turn or so several times.

Not enough testing to be sure, so I need to get him in a game with more Ranged/Magic monsters.

I think Dimm is a very good character creation as well. You were correct, IMO, to downgrade his speed back to four. I thought he was over powered at five speed (and five fatigue), but is well balanced now. +1 on the good job comment.

Thanks Schmiegel! I'll do more testing and post the results here, but so far Dimm does seem like an interesting hero. I'd really love to get him into a RtL game to see how he fares in the long term.
