I've got the PVC (vinyl) one from Deep Cut Studios. Great mat with really awesome artwork. I have this one:

That's mine. But mousepad. More expensive but definitely awesome.

These look some nice mats, but even at 30 a pop, they seem expensive.. For those who've used 'yoga mats', how did they handle when gaming?

The yoga mats are much nicer than any more official mats I’ve used. They have a somewhat “sticky” texture that really helps ships and squadrons not get knocked all over the place by maneuver tools and such.

Confirmed, the yoga mat is the discerning admiral's surface of choice.

I got a nice one I found on Amazon. Will try to post pics later if I remember

I got a F.A.T. Mat a couple of months ago. Very happy with it. Slightly less expensive than other 6’x3’. I haven’t measured it, but appears to be pretty accurate. Plus it comes with a carrying case!

Have you ever had a TO gripe about non-FFG'ness of your mat? I'm seriously thinking of going this route after playing on them a few times now...

I recently bought a Deep Cut Studios space mat and love it, ... after having bought about 6 other crappy mats that were WAAAY off in size.

Not once.

I've gotten two complaints about it from players.

I almost always bring it to tourneys in case they are short mats. In both cases, it was a Regionals in which they didn't have enough mats and so put mine out.

One said the yoga mat was hurting their eyes because of autism or... something. I don't judge, the complaint is within their rights and at least conceivably justified. The TO let them switch their game to a different table, no big deal.

One was mad across the ******* room for no reason other than it being unofficial--he wasn't even the one playing on it. The TO told him he was welcome to replace it by buying a pair of super official X-wing mats from the host store, and otherwise, to suck it.

I love the yoga mat. Much better than two official mats because there is no weirdness where the two mats meet.

That's the best possible response right there.

Nice response indeed ?

I still did not buy any mats yet, instead of buying official ffg mats I prefered to buy more ships. However I was thinking of cheaper alternatives and Yoga mat is a nice idea. I would buy a black one and paint my own stars on it.

The Armada-standard yoga mat . These used to be $20 a pop--unfortunately, I think the manufacturer may have finally caught on and they're showing as $37 now. Still the best deal out there though. I vastly prefer them to the FFG mats as a play surface as the grip keeps your ships and squadrons from slipping around even if you bump them a little bit--and, of course, being the actual standard play area size instead of having to get 2 separate 3x3's.

I put a starfield on mine by watering down some white model paint with 50% water, dipping an old toothbrush in it, and spritzing paint all over the mat like so:

Looks great and, imo, dramatically superior to FFG's in terms of functionality. And still one of the cheapest full mat options out there even after the price increase.

?

Wow I should have gone back in time ?
