3rd party play mats

By Payens, in Star Wars: Armada

does anyone know of some good 3rd party play mats for Armada?

I have found some online but really do not want to spend the money to get it if they suck.

And I am still waiting for my scarif mat.

The Armada-standard yoga mat . These used to be $20 a pop--unfortunately, I think the manufacturer may have finally caught on and they're showing as $37 now. Still the best deal out there though. I vastly prefer them to the FFG mats as a play surface as the grip keeps your ships and squadrons from slipping around even if you bump them a little bit--and, of course, being the actual standard play area size instead of having to get 2 separate 3x3's.

I put a starfield on mine by watering down some white model paint with 50% water, dipping an old toothbrush in it, and spritzing paint all over the mat like so:

Looks great and, imo, dramatically superior to FFG's in terms of functionality. And still one of the cheapest full mat options out there even after the price increase.

I have a 3x6 vinyl mat from game matz , I'm happy with it so far, they have some different designs if you would prefer something besides a nebula.

Dammit, I've had that one bookmarked for ages (from you linking it in a previous topic, I'm pretty sure) and was just thinking the other day I should finally order one. Guess I shouldn't have waited so long.

It's been a while since I bought mine but purchased it at https://www.hiddenforestgaming.com/.

I bought a neoprene mat from them(I think they're far superior to vinyl) which came with a carrier. I love the design I got and have gotten comments from other players. The sale/shipping process was very easy with no surprises.

I've got two 6x3 mats (mouse pad) from Deep Cut Studio. They are awesome.

Me too (only the one). The mouse pad is definitely worth the extra. If your in the UK you can get them from Wayland and you save a bit.

Me three, regarding Deep Cut Studio. I agree with everyone, that the mouse pad version is definitely worth it. I'm in the States and shipping was quick. Additionally, the bag they sell at their site is worth buying extra of, since they are hard to find in the US at a reasonable price.

We've got a couple of these at the shop we play at and they are great. Unfortunately they appear to prefer selling direct, so it isn't worth it for them to be stocked for sale locally... or at least that's what I've heard. Regardless, really good quality, and I might make an order because this post reminded me I should. I have two FFG mats set up side-by-side right now, but they aren't the same size by about a half inch...

Can those with any of the following 6x3 mats measure theirs and tell me how close they are to 6' x 3'? I ask because I purchased more 6x3 mats than I care to admit and all of them are at least 1/2" off in at least 1 axis, most of them 1-2" off.

  • 6x3 mats (mouse pad) from Deep Cut Studio
  • Stele open mat that is a 6 x 3 of Jaku

Just checked and its dead on the 3 foot side and maybe a 1/16" - 1/32" shorter on the 6 foot size.

I have the Frozen System mat from Gale Force 9, it's survived through about half a dozen games so far (both armada and a few x-wing)

What type of material is that made out of? Is it slippery?

It's vinyl so ya, a slippy one. neoprene is the mouse pad material.

It's vinyl, like a vinyl sign but with a matte finish to it.

It's not as slippery as you think it is.

Death Star I over Scarif.

Cheeky. :)

I use a yoga mat. It's dual purpose, as I actually use it for yoga also

Guys, thank you so much. I was looking for ages for a mouse pad quality mat with a simple design (those flashy nebulas are not Star Warsy for me and those planets in the background are too 2d for me). Although I live in Germany I ordered now from wayland. However, they don't have it in stock. I pray that I will get it before Christmas!

Thanks again to you two!
