One Tool Kit to Rule them All

By Dave69, in Genesys

I will expand on some thought I had the other day. With being able to design your own skills, talents, weapons, armor, species, and the tool kit nature of Magic. I would say that it may be even more design your own style of game than Hero System. With add on books I believe you could design skills, and vehicles. Genesys has species, armor, and weapons also. It is also in one book instead of several. I also think out of the gate it may have as much as Savage Worlds Core and Fate Core in terms of running game from single book. I think with each one if the sections you could run a game.

Right. I see it more on par with Savage Worlds Core and Fate Core. Not so much Hero System in that, Hero reeeeally wants you to make your own stuff. But I have to admit that I haven't picked up a Hero book in 10-15 years. :D

From what I see it isn't Hero (yet). Hero for the last few editions have always been (one book is all you need period, these others really save you work). Genesys isn't that. It's a great toolkit, and has lots of options to play with, but not as robust as Hero. But that is fine, Hero 6 was two 500+ page books. I'm happy with what we got jammed into the book we got. To be honest Starfinder sorta felt similar - there is enough to run, but slim options and not a whole bunch of mechanical toys to play with. After a couple of full setting books come out, with new spells, talents etc I think Genesys will be at near Hero level.

And based on the info I had before Genesys release, that is exactly what I was expecting.
