Fantasy Armor

By gandalf9700, in Genesys

I am working on Fantasy Armor for my Talislanta setting. I am trying to figure out an Item Quality for heavy armor that is poor for people who are stealthy (no Plate Armor for thieves). I was going to call it Heavy with a ranking and giving it one setback die per ranking. Or should I increase the difficulty of the maneuver with each ranking. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Does anyone else have any other ideas to differentiate Fantasy Armor?

Just add Setbacks to Stealth checks.

This. +2 setbacks for chainmail or other medium armour types, and +3 setback dice for platemail/heavy armour.

Light Armor: 1 soak maybe a boost to a skill here and there.

Medium Armor: 2 soak, setback to stealth, athletics and coordination checks

Heavy Armor: 3 soak, multiple setback to stealth, athletics & coordination checks.

add in defense where appropriate and other qualities as you see fit.

Further detail I'd probably make defense a "magical effect" thing and only magical armors have levels of defense.

Other effects could be like elemental shields that deal a number of damage to a target which is flavored to be fire/ice/electric/acid or whatever you like.

I might even add an upgrade in difficulty for stealth checks when wearing the armor, especially if it offers Defense too.

Have you looked at the sample fantasy chapter yet? The plate armour there adds two setback dice to all stealth checks.

2 feels generous.

(I was about to ask "have you ever tried sneaking in plate mail?" but I realised that:

a) I haven't, so I can't compare

b) I imagine most others haven't either, and

c) Someone here may have in which case I have literally no response ).

I’ve done sneaking in chainmail. It’s pretty easy unless the chain catches again vambraces or pauldrons.

(LARP is cool...)

c_beck thanks, I missed that as I was so excited about everything else. Thanks for all the help.

I know. It's soooo much quieter than leather. Heh.
