Time to get a Lambda?

By Celestial Lizards, in X-Wing

With the Silencer coming out (I still don't have AS), a big part of the meta looks to be RAC-Kylo. I have some ideas on making the crew of the Lambda work for RAC_Kylo, as well as Kylo (Upsilon), generic Silencer, and 1-2 FOs. Is it time to invest?

You may have trouble finding one. I haven't seen them on shelves locally for a long time.

There's a couple still at my FLGS. Finding one isn't an issue.

It’s such a pretty model...that is when peoples fly them with the Wings folded down properly

and doom shuttle is always always fun too.

I bought one off Ebay for $15.00 complete, not bad, yes I haven't seen any around in my LGS's for a while. The Lambda I am going to use with my 2 Gunboats, should make for an interesting list.

I'm with you on this. Running my Decimator for the first time tonight, and as I was optimizing the build, I was surprised how many of the crew I would have used came with the Lambda. So needless to say, it's the next ship on my buy list, and there happens to be one collecting dust at my local gaming store as well. It will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine.

Edit: This is the version of the Decimator I'm running tonight. It's not min/maxed to the extreme, but it should do. Vader will be running alongside it packing ATS, Predator, and Cruise Missiles.

Buy 4 of them, have your next opponent be stampeded by the herd of space cows!

Whenever I feel like giving my buddies a hard time:
I'll Show You the Stress Side
Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46)
Ruthlessness (3)
Mara Jade (3)
Tactician (2)
Kylo Ren (34)
Ruthlessness (3)
Collision Detector (0)
Recon Specialist (3)
Weapons Guidance (2)
Pattern Analyzer (2)
Kylo Ren's Shuttle (2)
Total: 100
If I get a Lambda today, I'll probably replace a Ruthlessness for Rebel Captive.
I run variations on this most casual nights, and everyone at the store is still trying to think up ways to beat it. Closest anyone got was a Dash-Horton build that would have easily dispatched most of my other lists.

The Lambda is one of the very few large ship bases that I actually own two of - because I like it so much.

In my opinion, one of the best priced ships (in terms of points) in the game. I actually really like to fly this thing and it has some great upgrade options to it. Strong ship, better than most people realize - highly recommend it :D!

I am flying one for the first time today at an Original Trilogy Only tournament. I put Advanced Sensors, Engine Upgrade, and HLC on it among other things. AvS to boost then hard turn and you're turning around MUCH faster than people expect!

I still have yet to try one of my supa Upsilons with that old Yorr strategy nobody remembers.

Yes! Buy it!

I'm flying one of my two in an escalation league! I've got Hux, Tactician, and Tractor Beam on the Lambda, and the rest of my week two list is three basic TIE Bombers with Unguided Rockets and Lightweight Frame. Not the best list ever, but it's sure fun! I'm looking forward to trying this in 100/6:

Omicron Group Pilot (30) - Lambda-Class Shuttle
Tractor Beam (1), •General Hux (5), •Mara Jade (3)

Nu Squadron Veteran (23) - Alpha-class Star Wing
XG-1 Assault Configuration (1), Long-Range Scanners (0), "Mangler" Cannon (4)

If you do, remember one must have on her: Engine, then season to taste. I had a nice time last flight using Sensor Jammer, she lasted to the end loosing only one Interceptor wingman ?

Is it something in the air? I was fooling around with a Lambda build myself.

Maybe there's a collective unconsciousness directing us. Maybe it's the Force. Maybe it's gas...

Well...

OGP + Palpy = 29

2x Rho + XG-1 + HLC + LB + Expertise + LRS (why not, it's free) = 70

...so that's 99 pts. Not sure how much ol' sparky is needed for the list, though, and thinking about what else could be done for the points. Vader making a comeback?

Light a match. It'll eliminate one variable. . .

Well, I say if you don't have one, that alone is enough reason to get a Lambda- just for the model.

But in all seriousness, it still is the cheapest support platform an Imperial can get. A ship that gets this much out of its upgrade slots for the rest of your list and doesn't lose you much in points when it goes down is well worth it even if you have an Upsilon.

It's quite versatile as well: Palpcarrier, Doomshuttle, Engine Upgrade Fighter Whale, 0-speed roadblock, and while not all that amazing, the pilot abilities are decent as well. So it's nice for fun experiments, too. All on one fine looking frame.

But if it's really just the upgrade cards, these are obviously well-deserved staples of many lists, too.

Agreed. You can always find a use for rebel captive, and having advanced sensors in your back pocket doesn't hurt either.

The GNK prize is a rather cool alt art Omicron Group Pilot, too, at the moment.

Technically the TIE shuttle is cheaper, but the Lambda has a gun that actually matters.

Indeed. I've tried (a while ago) three buzzsaw engine upgrade shuttles, and it was a nasty shock for people seeing how fast those things move. Kagi's pilot skill probably makes him rather unpredictable in a dogfight, too - if only his pilot ability was a bit more useful than 'force you to shoot the really expensive guy who can't dodge that you were probably going to shoot anyway'.

I keep meaning to have a try with a 4 shuttle list. Between Tactician/Tractor Beam, Ion Cannon, Darth Vader, Mara Jade, and upgrading an Omicron to Captain Yorr, you can get a lot of dirty tricks for 3 points - strap some combinations of the above onto Electronic Baffle Omicrons and you've got a big whack of health and some nasty abilities.

Not sure about Engine as a must-have. I had a lot of fun running the Albino Void Manatee with Electronic Waffle. Being able to pull repeated full stops off at the cost of a shield is hilarious, especially if you have Anti Pursuit Lasers equipped. i remember keeping a very angry Bossk parked on top of an asteroid for three consecutive turns at a store championship with an Imperial Waffle, before he eventually blew up.

Indeed. The Electronic Wafflemaker single-handedly makes the idea of 4 shuttles in one squad 'work'.

Maybe the OGP is properly costed, but the named pilots get expensive quickly. You could argue Yorr is alright, but could probably be 23 points in all honesty. Jendon than could be at 24 points and Kagi at 25. Neither of those two have game warping abilities.

Trust me, in an epic game, Kagi is plenty game-warping. You bought a Sensor Team on your corvette or Bodhi Rook in your squad? Cool idea. Sucks to be you!

But I will concede that in 'normal' games, he's not worth the money you're paying for his pilot skill, and he could stand to be a lot cheaper.

Jendon's pilot ability is good, but needs to be paired with ST-321 to really justify it, which if anything makes him even more expensive.

Literally almost bought one at my local store yesterday. I had the same thinking, plus it has some killer upgrades that are going to fit well with the new waves.
