By Funk Fu master, in Star Wars: Legion

Ok. So what should we expect to see before FFG starts getting inventive. Lets list them

Empire:

Death troopers

Shore troopers

Hovertank

E-Web weapons team

On foot scout troopers

Naval Troopers

What have I missed

Imperial Sandtroopers on Dewbacks

Ewoks!

That elephant-like imperial spy/infiltrator thing in mos eisley

Snow Troopers

Echo Base Defenders

Tauntaun Riders

... and there better be Mouse Droids!!!

I doubt most of what I've put down would happen, but it's just a general wish-list. I'd like to see the X-Wing and Tie Fighters added as the biggest flying-units simply because I think they're REALLY iconic, and so I find that to be nice. I know, I probably missed a few units, although these are just what came to me off the top of my head. And I know, some of you probably dislike my thoughts on putting an AT-AT into this game.

EMPIRE
I don't want the AT-AT. It's TOO big for regular matches, and would be awkward, and likely either extremely OP or extremely weak. I would only consider adding it MAYBE if they made an Epic-Scale mode.
Commander: Tarkin, Thrawn, The Grand Inquisitor, Krennic, Palpatine
Corps: Snow Troopers, Scout Troopers
Special Forces: Death Troopers, Probe Droids, Dark Troopers
Support: Dewback Riders, AT-PT
Heavy: Tie Fighter

REBELS
So I wasn't quite sure what would make a nice Support for Rebels that's been on-screen, although I think a Landspeeder could work.

Commander: Han&Chewie, Leia, Ezra, Kanan, Jyn Erso
Corps: Ewoks, Alderaan Troopers
Special Forces: Wookie Warriors, Rebel Commandos
Support: Landspeeder
Heavy: X-Wing, Stationary Turret

For a Rebel Support or Heavy, if we include TV and games there are a couple designs of landspeeder technicals. There's a background speeder in Ep.I armed with some sort of blaster on a pintle, a V-35 in Rebels armed with an E-web bolted to the roof on its tripod, and Battlefront II ('17) has an XP-34 with a dash-mounted E-web.

I really want the Empire to get the Troop Tranporter. Have loved that thing since it was a toy in the 80's. And now it's been on screen in Rebels.

Don't forget Scarab troopers and KX-series security droids for the empire (and therefore K-2SO for the rebels)

The heroes, Villains, Madolrin, and troops seen in Starwars Rebels.

I'm really hoping units in wave 2 and onwards start to bring in mechanics that synergise between units, rather than just stand alone units.

Probe droids as support rather than special ops. They'd never be a front line unit surely, maybe the mechanic is they play the part of a movable long range com, allowing a commander to provide orders to troops within range 1 of the prove unit too.

Death troopers as a bodyguard mechanic to the commander in the force, especially if Krennic or Tarkin are squishy.

Bothans for rebel support, or something with a jamming function. Enemy generals can't give commands to enemy units within range 2 of the jamming signal.

Yeah I've been thinking how somebody like Krennic might work out as a commander. I envision him having a fairly low cost, a low wound threshold/health of only 2 or 3, and a white defense die with surge-- but he would also have 2 or 3 trooper/specialist/bodyguard upgrade slots and come with some Death trooper minis to fill those slots. I think the trick would be getting the base unit and the upgrades costed right.

I wonder whether death troopers would be part of his unit, like an entire commander unit, or a separate special forces unit.

i reckon he'd need to pack a punch with an offensive weapon to warrant him being so easy to kill, he's Gotta have some kinda offset to that.

Would love to see him handing out evades or other support options to all trooper units within a certain distance.

Well I don't think it these two possibilities are mutually exclusive. That being said, I don't necessarily expect to see commanders coming with bodyguards in the same box, but I think it's a good idea that would work well with people like Tarkin and Krennic who tend to avoid the thick of the fighting. The advantage of having bodyguards actually in the commander unit is that they have to be assigned wounds and killed before the unit leader does.

I would expect most high ranking Imperial officers to have almost no offensive capability (beyond any bodyguards they might have.) Their squishiness and anemic attack would be offset by 1) points cost, 2) buffs they provide, like handing out dodge or aim tokens to nearby troops, and 3) their unique command cards. In fact I hope that the most powerful command cards come with people like Tarkin, Thrawn, Rieekan, and other important commanders who deserve an appearance but don't do much shooting or actual fighting themselves.

I completely agree, it would be weird to see an older General running around a battlefield getting into the thick of it. I would like to see the ability to buy/field a death trooper squad but also see them act as body guards. Krennic as a commander could come with two death troopers and must follow him like a unit leader in a squad. Other Generals could do the same, kinda of like the body guards in battlefront (Leia with Rebel Honor Guards).

It might be a little bit of a stretch but you could combine commanders with vehicles, such as General Veers and an AT-ST (could display him playing tank commander out of the top hatch).

I would like to see two distinct groups of Rebel Commandos.

The first would be the rebel troopers on Scariff. Although they acted like commandos, they were refereed to in Rogue One as assassins and saboteurs. Their appearance would include some helmets and vests to differentiate them from the troopers in the core set and wave 1.

The other group would be a formalized Commando unit such as the one on Endor. As @devin.pike.1989 said, they could be different by wearing tactical ponchos :)

The Scariff troopers could have upgrades and specialties with explosives while the Endor Commandos could come with standard long range com-links to coordinate their attacks anywhere on the table.

It would be sweet if they could figure a way to bring in Saw Gerrera's partisans into the game as well. Could be a rebel sub-faction.

Now I really really want TIE Fighters and X-wings. I'm not sure they will work well in this game. They will probably have to be an entirely different kind of unit that flies on, makes its attacks and then flies off again. If we ever get them I want U-Wings with door gunners.

Snow, shore, sand troopers with their supporting heavy/ special weapons and teams. Tanks. Stormtrooper and naval trooper officers.

Rebels-Rebel army and navy troopers. Snow gear guys andall their support and special weapon teams. Plus low ranking no name officers to lead them

Gungan army the whole thing.

I wonder if they'll try and work in the bounty hunters in some fashion via perhaps a scum faction?

Mandalorians flying around over the battlefield could be crazy awesome....

I really want a stormtrooper canine unit. Like this guy but a stormtrooper version:
