my first thought when seeing this topic pop up was that of a creative thread necro, figured someone went back and found when these were announced last year and just commented to bring it to the fore front and break everyones heart
Bleh.
Didn't most of the NOVA Armada community quit? We were just talking about that in Discord last night/this morning. Why not somewhere with an actual active community...?

They quit for X-Wing? That surprises me.

I think he's suggesting there's still an X-wing community in that area so the tournament scene is more for them than armada and we're more clinging on.

Armada and X-Wing are separate games. Don't know why FFG would link them together for tournaments like that.
Unless all the other Star Wars FFG games have Nationals at NOVA.
All nationals at the same location

I don't know that our community is really big enough to get its own national event. I went to gencon, we had 40ish games round 1, that's 80 people. I'm not saying that's tiny, but x-wing had double the space filled with a game that takes up nearly half the area. I heart armada, just pointing out that we're chess to checkers and we live in america where people are challenged by tic tac toe, let alone checkers.
Some of the NoVa community has quit, but hardly most. I keep seeing the same regulars showing up at tournaments and attendance hasn't really dropped off.
It really would be fun to go. However, I think my travel budget and time may already be spoken for at that period. :-(
I had a blast this year! This time I'm going to plan time off in advance, and hopefully be in better shape to explore the capitol afterwards.

The sad truth in that last sentence.
I may go this year especially since there isn't a Stele this year. However there is something going on in July that may shut me down from doing so.

Yep.
Like it or not, X-Wing is the big prize and all other Star Wars games are tied to the X-Wing juggernaut for Nationals and higher. NOVA is still the #1 location for X-Wing in the US, with multiple premier level champions all clustered in that area.
I'm sure any Armada related drama is secondary to "The X-Wing Community is happy."
The community has a long time to prep for this, hopefully it can rally and make a strong showing.

I'm getting confirmation that a lot of Bay Area players are interested. This is the exact positive scenario I've suggested previously regarding these big events. Now we just need to start seeing actual ticket sales.
Hoping for Armada+Legion this time personally.

Well Armada has a Juggernaut too....

This! I don’t mean to sound like a conceited Ahole but Armada does no even seem that complex of a game to me yet it astounds me how many drooling idiots we have in this world! They get all excited about the shiny spaceships on the table but when you actually sit them down and try to explain the rules and strategies they give you this glassy eye stare, and at that point you know you lost them.
I guess a part part of me is glad they are not playing Armada with that sort of intellectual power.

I frequently remind myself that the average IQ is 100 meaning that around half the population has an IQ that falls below 100, helps me explain a lot of interactions.
I read a study a few years ago that 80% of the population defines their level of intelligence as "above average." And to make matters worse, the bottom 20% rate themselves about average.

And then there are the morons who undertook that study on the basis that intelligence can be polarized into a single number.
In some ways I am incredibly intelligent, in others I am an absolute moron. Unless you add any form of perspective or focus to it, the idea of intelligence level is completely subjective.
Gaaah.
Edit. Looked up Dunning Kruger. They studied specificslly cognitive ability and logic. This is a very distinct strand of intelligence and thus makes sense.
Disappointed in Verg in whom I expect better consideration of word choice!

Ahh, the Dunning-Kruger Effect! Don't forget the corollary that those of high ability tend to underestimate their own level of competence; what is easy for them must be easy for others.

I kind of like the idea of persistent people learning a thing or two about tactics and strategy from the current player base regardless of IQ, tbh. Not saying the amount of idiots in the world doesn’t bug me too, but frankly, this feels a little divisive.
