Youngster+Debris Gambit, Ace with Swarm Leader+ The rest Academy TIE's...

By Archangelspiv, in X-Wing

Could this be fun? Stupid? or any combination?

Quickdraw - 43
Swarm Leader
Harpoon Missile
Title
LWF
Threat tracker
FCS

Youngster - 18
Debris Gambit
TIE MK II

3x Academy TIES 12(36)

Total - 100

QD is expensive in this build, I wanted Academy TIEs to go first, get their action and maybe block. I chose QD because he has dual arcs for some Swarm leader Craziness, but I am sure any Imperial Ace could be used. Even add another Academy TIE for a lesser Ace. Just thought it could be fun, but I have very limited Swarm knowledge, so thought I would post it here for ridicule, I mean help.

The amusing thing I thought of in this context was Quickdraw with Swarm Leader and a bunch of ships with two evades each. Two evades each means QD's ability can be boosted with +2 dice twice or even 3 or 4 times per round if all the stars align, and it gives a MASSIVE disincentive to shoot QD, which in turn means that he is more likely to survive with shields intact until the endgame.

BUT

I don't think building him this big is the right way to do it. The Harpoon is excessive and antisynergistic with Swarm leader, and Threat Tracker is probably unnecessary. Take him down a few pegs and you should be able to upgrade one or more of the Academies to black cracks or even black jukes.

But sadly, it's still probably dumb.

"Quickdraw" (29)

Advanced Optics (2)

"Youngster" (15)

It may be dumb, but it fits in...

Another dumb idea:

"Quickdraw" (29)
Swarm Leader (3)
Fire-Control System (2)
Primed Thrusters (1)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Special Ops Training (0)

"Youngster" (15)
Debris Gambit (2)

"Pure Sabacc" (22)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Adaptive Ailerons (0)

"Countdown" (20)

Use strikers or TAPs instead of TIE fighters. This should draw a lot of fire on Youngster and Sabacc.
There's room for Adabtability/ASTS/Trickshot on Sabacc. Or remove primed thrusters on QD to add something better.

The version with TAPs:

2x

Baron of the Empire (19)
Juke (2)
Autothrusters (2)

QD can use two tokens from Youngster and one each from the Barons, leaving them a token for Juke.

Neither Strikers nor TAPs can benefit from youngster...

uuuuh.... oh

Thank you @RufusDaMan, that's exactly my reaction :/

I'd still try to go with two ok ships instead of 3 black sqd. You could even try OL and something, or try OmegaAce as additional threat. Or generic FOs

"Quickdraw" (29)
Swarm Leader (3)
Fire-Control System (2)
Harpoon Missiles (4) <----- new
Lightweight Frame (2)
Special Ops Training (0)

"Youngster" (15)
Debris Gambit (2)

Omega Squadron Pilot (17)
Juke (2)
Advanced Optics (2)

Omega Squadron Pilot (17)
Juke (2)
Advanced Optics (2)

Edit: switch LWF on QD to chips, add in optics for a better alpha if you want.
But I have to say, FO ties with Optics and Juke are maybe not very bad for 21 points....

When it was announced that Youngster hability was working with TIE/sf, people tried Youngster+Rage with QD+Swarm Leader. IMHO, It had more potential than Youngster+Debris Gambit.

Something like:

"Quickdraw" — TIE/sf Fighter 29
Swarm Leader 3
Lightweight Frame 2
Special Ops Training 0
Ship Total: 34
"Youngster" — TIE Fighter 15
Rage 1
Ship Total: 16
Black Squadron Pilot — TIE Fighter 14
Juke 2
Ship Total: 16
Black Squadron Pilot — TIE Fighter 14
Juke 2
Ship Total: 16
Black Squadron Pilot — TIE Fighter 14
Juke 2
Ship Total: 16

those Blacks won't get many evades if they rage. And the whole idea here was to feed QD twice, for his shot and the revenge shot.

In the Rage version, Blacks + Youngster are supposed to take the evade action to provide 4 Evades for QD.

Id drop the Jukes to Crackshot and put Electronic Baffles on QD.

QD Rages + Electronic Baffles to more easily get 2 shots in a round and rerolls for the 2 shots + 1 Focus to increase offensive accuracy.

But QD uses all evades before they get to use Juke? That‘s what I was irritated about.

The debris gambit idea provides more evade tokens to be used, allowing two juked shots AND 2x2 additional dice. The advantage of rage+baffle is of course that you actually get the second shot. So rather crackshot than Juke IMO

I saw this in a slightly different light. Using debris gambit actually allows Quickdraw to get evade tokens, to potentially make those shield tokens last as long as possible. It's exceedingly unlikely that you will ever use debris gambit more than once or twice a game with the tie fighters, as their standard evade token works on the entirety of the map. But on Quickdraw, who has a focus banked with advanced optics, and a TL from fire-control system? That's money right there.

Gambit + Adv Optics is going to be interesting for anyone with Tech, but for QD it's a hard road to hoe to not take VI.

Reading this thread is... odd. It’s like there’s 5 different conversations going on and each one is trying as hard as it can to ignore the others.
